Jean Musgjerd graduated from BSU in 1985 with a degree in physical education and health and returned to complete her Masters Degree in 1992. While an undergrad at BSU, Jean was a four year standout on the volleyball team, serving as team captain in 1983 and 1984 and was selected Team MVP in 1984. She was selected to the All Tournament Teams at the UMD Halloween Tournament in the fall of 1983 and the Wendy's Classic at NDSU in the fall of 1984. Jean still holds third place records at BSU for career assists with 3,558 and 10th place for season best assists with 1,982. Jean averaged 1000 sets per season all four years of her career. Jean was selected All Conference in 1983 and 1984 and All NAIA District 13 in 1982, 1983, and 1984. She was 3rd in conference overall success percentage in 1984 and 1st in conference overall efficiency percentage the same year. Jean received the Elsie Annis Award in 1984 from BSU and was named one of the Top 30 Female Athletes at BSU in 2000. Jean continued in athletics after graduation, coaching high school volleyball for two years, serving as the assistant volleyball coach and then the head volleyball coach at BSU while earning her masters degree. She then moved to Rochester Community and Technical College in 1991 to serve as both an instructor and coach. She served as the head volleyball coach for sixteen years, coaching two conference championship teams, one state championship team, two national tournament qualifiers and received NJCAA Region XIII Coach of the Year Honors for both of those years. She also became the head softball coach in 1994, a position she continues to serve in today. Through that seventeen year stretch, her teams have had ten regional and three national tournament appearances. Among many other professional awards, she and her assistant coaches earned NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year in 2006 and she has been named NJCAA Region XIII Coach of the Year three times. In addition to her coaching duties, Jean serves as the Women's Athletic Director at Rochester Community and Technical College, as well as the Women's Director of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIII.
