Mike Roysland graduated from Bemidji State University with bachelors
degrees in elementary and physical education. He was a three year
letter winner in basketball and was selected as team tri-captain and
NIC All Conference his senior year. Mike earned team honors in 1977 for
most assists and in 1979 for most points scored. Mike went on to teach
physical education and coach boy's basketball for 22 years and girl's
volleyball for 15 years at Win-E-Mac High School in Macintosh,
Minnesota. He led the girl's volleyball team to the Class A State
tournament eight times, winning the championship in 1988 and taking
second five times. He also had the privilege of coaching the Minnesota
all-star volleyball team in 1988. Mike has been recognized as one of
the premiere high school volleyball coaches in the state of Minnesota
and was selected as State Coach of the Year three times and inducted
into the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998.
Throughout his tenure as a volleyball coach at Win-E-Mac, Mike accrued
a .887 wining percentage with 364 wins and 51 losses. Mike saw success
on the basketball court as well, taking his boy's team to second in the
state championship tournament in 2000 and winning many conference and
district titles throughout his coaching career. His career coaching
record for basketball was 360-237. He also earned honors as conference
and subsection coach of the year in this sport. In addition to teaching
and coaching, Mike served 12 years as Athletic Director at Win-E-Mac.
In the fall of 2001, Mike moved to the Fosston, Minnesota school
district and became the head boy's high school basketball coach. In
2004 he served as the boys coach for the Minnesota Select Team and
posted a season record of 25-9. He also served as co-coach for the
North Tartan girls AAU basketball team for two years, placing third in
nationals in 2002 and winning the national championship in 2003. In
2006, Mike was hired as the head women's basketball coach at the
University of Minnesota, Crookston. Mike and his wife, Kim '80, live in
Fosston, Minnesota and have two children, including Kelly, who is an
assistant women's basketball coach at NDSU and Josh, a student at
Southwest Minnesota State.
