Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb, today announced the hiring of Mark Bagaason as the Beavers’ new head women’s golf and assistant women’s basketball coach.


BSU among Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award winners

The Bemidji State University athletics department made the grade again as it was named among the 2010-11 recipients of the Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) Academic Achievement Awards today. The DII ADA’s Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level across the country.


Former Bemidji State swimming standout named to NSIC Hall of Fame

Bemidji State University graduate and former men’s swimming standout Trip Hedrick (1973-77) has been named as a part of the 2011 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Hall of Fame induction class. The NSIC 2011 Hall of Fame induction ceremony is set for July 13 at the Best Western Kelly Inn in St. Cloud, Minn.


2011 Gordy Skaar Memorial Golf Tournament a success

Gordy "Spook" Skaar Jr. tees off June 17 as more than 40 teams of golfers converged at Bemidji Town and Country Club to participate in the Gordy Skaar Memorial Golf Tournament. The 34th annual event raised more than $20,000 for Bemidji State University's men's athletics scholarship fund.


Bemidji State remains in good academic standing with NCAA

The Bemidji State University men’s and women’s ice hockey teams have again met the Academic Progress Rate (APR) standards set fourth by the NCAA. These scores provide performance benchmarks for all NCAA Division I programs under the Association’s standards for academic progress and performance beginning with data from the 2006-07 and extending through the 2009-10 academic year.

The 34th Annual Gordy Skaar Memorial Golf Tournament is set for Friday, June 17 at Bemidji Town and Country Club in Bemidji, Minn. Registration materials are now being accepted for the event to benefit Bemidji State University men’s scholarship fund.


Sautbine and Juell garner Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors

Bemidji State University outdoor track and field multi-event athletes Taylor Sautbine (So., Tamarack, Minn.) and Tandy Juell (So., Redwood Falls, Minn.) have been named as the final Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week for the 2010-11 athletic season after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of May 2-8.

Bemidji State hockey weekend in Grand Forks

Bemidji State University hockey fans will have a unique opportunity this weekend to cheer on the Beavers. Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams will be in Grand Forks, N.D. playing against the University of North Dakota. The men will be playing against the Fighting Sioux in a regular season WCHA series, while the women will be playing the Sioux in the first round of the 2010-11 WCHA playoffs.


Bemidji State enshrines seven into Athletic Hall of Fame

Bemidji State University honored seven individuals and two teams as a part of its 2011 Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Saturday at Hungry Bear Convention Center. Individuals honored included: Dale Baldwin, Billy Bryand, Lori Hutchins Peter Haus, Al Wolden, Jane Reimer-Morgan and Vance Balstad. In addition, BSU's women's basketball teams of 1984-85 and 1985-86 were honored.

WCHA selects 21 Bemidji State student-athletes for Scholar Athlete Award

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced recipients of its sixth annual WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award. Student-athletes from Bemidji State comprise 21 of the 90 recipients not only set the pace for all member institutions, none of BSU's WCHA counterparts received more than 12 selections.


Stone inks one more to 2011 soccer class

The Bemidji State University soccer team added an eighth member to its 2011 recruiting class announcing the addition of Jillian Hall (Oswego, Ill.) announced head coach Jim Stone.

NSIC votes to expand for 2012-13 campaign

Acting Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and Winona State University President Dr. Judith Ramaley announced today that the NSIC Board of Directors, consisting of the 14 NSIC Presidents and Chancellors, voted to expand the league to 16 institutions and add University of Sioux Falls and Minot State University for 2012-13.


Bemidji State to drop men’s indoor and outdoor track and field programs

Bemidji State University will discontinue its men’s indoor and outdoor track and field athletic programs, effective at the end of the 2010-11 academic year. The elimination of the programs came today as BSU President Dr. Richard Hanson unveiled the University’s plan to address an expected $5 million shortfall for the biennium,which can directly attributed to the economic challenges the State of Minnesota is facing with its budget deficit.

Beaver Pride’s third annual Hardwater Classic set for Jan. 15

As the January winds whisk in from the north and temperatures plunge below zero, Bemidji State University offers an opportunity for all of Northern Minnesota to embrace the outdoors. Bemidji State student-athletes give back this holiday season

Bemidji State student-athletes took a break from final exams this week to give back. Thursday, the BSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee packaged over 200 stuffed animals and several large bags of hats, mittens and other cold-weather gear donated at BSU athletics events last weekend for distribution in Bemidji and the surrounding area this holiday season.

Lakeland Public Television General Manger Bill Sanford today announced that the local public television station has expanded its broadcast of Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey home hockey games to its main channel--Lakeland Prime. The addition of BSU hockey to Lakeland Prime will bring live hockey action to homes all over central and northern Minnesota in high definition.
