Thompson and Rongstad named 2012-13 Student-Athletes of the Year

Bemidji State University volleyball outside hitter Bethany Thompson and quarterback/gaurd Lance Rongstad were named 2012-13 Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year as a part of the Beaver Nation Celebration Thursday at Sanford Center. In addition, Megan Castro of the soccer team and football standout Connor Quinn were selected BSU’s 2012-13 Female and Male Newcomers of the Year.

WCHA tabs 17 Bemidji State players Scholar Athletes

The Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) today announced recipients of its seventh annual WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award. Student-athletes from Bemidji State University comprised 17 of the league-record 114 recipients in 2011-12.

Bemidji State inducts 2013 class into Athletic Hall of Fame

Bemidji State University inducted seven individuals and three teams into its Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday as part of the University’s Hall of Fame Weekend. This year's Hall of Fame inductees include: Brian Carleton, Laurie (Peterson) Gross, David Lee and Elizabeth Mulvihill; the newest member of the Alumni Coaching Achievement Award Joan (Campbell) Anderson and the 2013 John S. BSU and the NSIC present “It’s a Slam Dunk—Don’t drive Drunk” Feb. 1-2

Late on a Saturday night in July of 2012, a drunk driver swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a car carrying Southwest Minnesota State’s head men’s basketball coach Brad Bigler, his wife, his wife’s grandmother and his five-month old son, Drake. Drake was killed in the crash. The driver of the other car had two previous drunk driving arrests in 2000 and 2005.

2013 Hardwater Classic set for Jan. 26

Bemidji State University and Beaver Pride have set January 26 from 12-3 p.m. for the 2013 Hardwater Classic. Knife River Materials is the title sponsor of the fifth annual catch-and-release ice-fishing tournament held on Lake Bemidji. All proceeds of the annual fund-raising event directly benefit the Bemidji State University Athletic Scholarship Fund.

Bemidji State athletic events will go on as planned Dec. 15

All Bemidji State University’s athletic events scheduled for Dec. 15 will go on as planned. The Bemidji State basketball teams will host NSIC foe Minot State at BSU Gymnasium. The women’s game is set for a 4 p.m. and the men’s game will follow at approximately 6 p.m. Likewise, the BSU men’s ice hockey team will wrap up its WCHA series with Denver at 7:07 p.m. at Sanford Center.

The Bemidji State/Sara Labraaten Run/Walk for Women kicked off the Homecoming events Saturday morning as family, friends and alumni supported women's athletics at BSU with the fourth annual gathering. Nearly 100 people participated in the event to raise nearly $5,000 for women's scholarships at BSU.

Boschee named Bemidji State head men’s basketball coach

Mike Boschee has been named the 16th head coach of the Bemidji State University men’s basketball program. Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Boschee, a 22-year veteran in the coaching profession, most recently as the head coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa.

Former Bemidji State men’s golf coach named to NSIC Hall of Fame
