BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Student-athletes from Bemidji State University spent Monday morning at Lincoln Elementary School to participate in "I Love to Read Month" festivities.
Members of the BSU volleyball, soccer and women's hockey team, along with Bucky the Beaver, interacted with children ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade, reading their favorite books, talking to kids about the importance of school and introducing them to life balancing athletics and academics as a collegiate student-athlete.
The event with BSU student-athletes was just one event in a month-long celebration of reading at Lincoln Elementary. The school has also set a word count goal for the month and has special pajama day/reading days set aside, among others, as a part of its focus on reading.
Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
