Bemidji State cited in NACMA “Best Of” Awards

ORLANDO – The Bemidji State University Athletic Department earned silver recognition for its “TruFlex presented by TruStar Federal Credit Union Men’s Hockey Ticket Plan” at the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators ‘Best of’ Awards ceremony and the 26th Annual NACMA Convention in Orlando, Fla., June 14.

The innovative ticket plans allow Beaver Hockey fans to attend games and use allotted tickets when it was convenient for them. Ticket packages were available in bundles of 8, 16 and 27. Fans purchasing the eight-ticket package were free to use one ticket to eight games, eight tickets to one game or anything in between. In addition, BSU also partnered with TruStar Federal Credit Union to sponsor the campaign and hold naming rights. BSU also featured TruStar Federal Credit Union as the sponsor of its third period fan “Truflex cam.”

“We are extremely humbled and proud to be recognized among some of the most creative and successful marketing minds in collegiate athletics,” said Brad Folkestad, BSU’s Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Marketing. The NACMA ‘Best Of’ Awards highlight the top ideas from across the country and reward both innovation and results. To be a finalist and now a recipient of a silver award for the first time in the history of Beaver Athletics is a tremendous honor.

“The TruFlex idea was truly a collaborative effort between BSU Athletics, the BSU Foundation and Sanford Center and we could not have made it happen with out the sponsorship of TruStar Federal Credit Union.”

Bemidji State received the silver in Group Ill of the Revenue Generating Idea category. Augustana University earned a goal citation and Grand Valley State University the bronze.

This marks the first NACMA “Best Of” Award citation for Bemidji State.

The NACMA Best of Awards program was initiated in 2003 to honor outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. There are 13 categories and three divisions within each category, based on school size and conference affiliation. More than 1,000 entries were logged in 2017-18.
