Jason Hampton begins his first season with the Beavers in 2017 with focus on hitting and defensive responsibilities. Hampton, a former Major League Baseball first year draft pick, joins BSU after serving as assistant coach at Northern State University for two seasons.

Hampton, a Rocklin, Cali., native, focused on offensive responsibilities for NSU, which ranked in the top five in major offensive categories in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in 2015 and 2016. The Wolves raised their batting average from .292 to .329 in his first season with the club and led the nation with 139 doubles in 2015. Hampton helped guide NSU to the NSIC Tournament in both seasons, in which the team finished fourth and fifth. He also assisted in recruiting and supporting all team and individual activities for the baseball program.

Hampton served as the assistant coach for the Sacramento Heat, a member of the Golden State Collegiate League, during the summer of 2016 and for the Wisconsin Woodchucks, a member of the Northwoods League, during the summer of 2015. He began his coaching career at his alma mater Sacramento State University as an assistant coach and director of baseball operations, where he spent two seasons with the program.

In the winter of 2013, Hampton graduated from Sacramento State with a degree in organizational communications. He played four seasons with the Hornets from 2010-13 while playing first base and designated hitter, as well as spending time in the starting rotation and bullpen. SCSU improved its win total each season Hampton was a part of the team, finishing with 34 wins in 2013. He also played on two summer league teams, the Humboldt Crabs in 2012 and the St. Cloud River Bats in 2010.

The Cincinnati Reds drafted Hampton in the 47th round of the MLB’s 2009 First Year Player Draft out of Rocklin High School as a pitcher.
