Shane Veenker is entering his 14th season in 2019-20 with the Bemidji State women’s hockey team. Veenker helped guide the Beavers to a fifth place WCHA finish in 2018-19 highlighted by a win over the number one team in the country (Wisconsin). Veenker oversees the Beavers’ blue-liners, power play unit, and video breakdown.
Establishing himself as a tireless recruiter with an eye for identifying potential the Beavers have seen two All-American's and an Olympian in goaltenders Zuzana Tomcikova (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Brittni Mowat(Glenboro, Manitoba) and a WCHA Defensive Player of the Year in Defensemen(Ivana Bilic). BSU has had 10 players placed on all-WCHA teams including five blue-liners and with his assistance the Beavers have advanced to the WCHA Final Face-Off three times.
Veenker joined the Beaver staff after serving as an assistant coach for the Bemidji High School girls’ hockey team, before which he was Head Coach for the Bagley-Fosston High School boys’ hockey team. He is a 1988 Windom Area High School graduate and graduated with a degree from Bemidji State University in Physical Education/Adapted Physical Education in 1993. While attending BSU, Veenker was employed for four seasons as the manager of the men’s hockey team, where he worked under legendary Beaver hockey coach R.H. 'Bob' Peters.
Veenker has worked extensively with the USA Hockey Development Program serving as a Select 14, 15, 16, and 17 coach. He also has previous work experience in the World League of American Football (NFL Europe) and as a graduate assistant for the University of Minnesota football team.
