Anderson and Silvernagel garner Beaver Pride’s weekly honors
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Courtney Anderson (So., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) and Josh Silvernagel (Sr., MIF/RHP., Bismarck, N.D.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of March 22-28.

Anderson picked up her first win of the season, the team’s second, pitching a complete game in the first contest of a nonconference doubleheader against Minnesota, Crookston March 27 at the BSU Softball Field. In seven innings Anderson only surrendered one run on five hits, while striking out eight Golden Eagle batters. The eight strikeouts is the second-most strikeouts in one game for the sophomore’s career.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award marks the first time during the 2010 campaign that the organization has honored Anderson, while it stands as the first award for a member of the BSU women’s softball team.

Silvernagel went 9-for-18 (.500) last week as the Beavers played six games in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at the BSU Baseball Field. He added three RBI, two runs and a double. Silvernagel took 10 bases, while drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch. On the base paths, he stole his team-leading sixth base of the season. He played both second base and shortstop during the week, recording 20 assists, 10 putouts and a .938 fielding percentage

The Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award marks the first for Silvernagel during the 2010 campaign and the third for the BSU baseball team.

The softball squad (2-11, 0-0 NSIC) opens NSIC play as it takes on Concordia University, St. Paul today at the BSU Softball Field with the first pitch of the doubleheader slated for 12 p.m. BSU will then battle St. Cloud State in a conference doubleheader at 12 p.m. Thursday at the BSU Softball Field. The baseball team (10-15, 1-7 NSIC) is set to complete their 12-game homestand that started the conference season April 2-3 with a four-game series with Winona State University. Friday’s doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. start, while Saturday’s contests will begin at 12 p.m.
