The Bemidji State baseball team held its annual alumni game today on the BSU Baseball Field. More than 20 former Beavers came back to play in a nine inning game with the current Beaver student-athletes.

Beavers fall 6-2 in season opener

The Bemidji State University baseball team wasn’t able to capitalize on its opportunities and left runners on base in the season opener Tuesday, falling 6-2 to Northwestern College (Iowa) at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. The Beavers (0-1) held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the fourth inning of the nine inning contest, but a three-run frame gave the Red Raiders a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.


New bat standard in college baseball

A new bat standard adopted by the NCAA, effective January 2011, could help the pitching staff of the Bemidji State University baseball team keep baseballs inside the confines of the ballpark this season. After watching 67 homeruns fly over the outfield fence in 53 games played, a new bat standard called BBCOR (Batted Ball Coefficient of Restitution) has changed the way manufactures make their aluminum and composite bats, resulting in a decrease in bat performance by 10-15 percent.


Bemidji State Baseball Outlook

The Bemidji State baseball team is still trying to find its spot in the new Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, but it returns a core group of players to the 2011 squad, hoping to combine it with some newcomers that could make an immediate impact to improve on its 2010 16-37 overall and 7-25 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference record. The Beavers begin play at the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational in Arizona March 8-13.

The weekly radio show, “Sports in the Round,” which broadcasts on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at The Ground Round, will this week feature Bemidji State University baseball. Beavers tabbed 11th in NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The Bemidji State University baseball team was tabbed 11th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, released by league officials today. The Beavers received 55 votes after closing the 2010 season with a 16-37 overall record and a 7-25 mark in NSIC play, finishing 11th in the final league standings.


Baseball schedule altered due to Metrodome roof collapse

Due to the H.H.H. Metrodome collapse in December, all levels of collegiate baseball in the region has been affected. The Bemidji State University baseball team is one of those programs that had to reschedule, cancel or move games caused by the damage to the roof. BSU had eight games scheduled for the Metrodome between Feb. 16 and March 22.


Baseball announces Fall Showcase

Bemidji State head baseball coach Tim Bellew has announced the 2010 Fall Showcase for Saturday, Sept. 18, coined ‘Pack the Ball Park Day.’
