SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Bemidji State University baseball team jumped five spots to No. 5 in the March 14 edition of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Central Regional poll. The Beavers have won five of their last six games and own a 7-3 record in 2012.
The Beavers traveled south March 3-9 for the RussMatt Greater Phoenix Invitational and posted a 5-1 mark. BSU recorded 9.8 runs and allowed 6.3 runs per game during the Invite. BSU opened its spring break trip with Benedictine University at Springfield March 3 and won 14-11 after taking a 10-0 lead into the sixth inning. The Beavers followed with an extra-innings victory against Simpson College March 4, as they posted a 7-4 win in nine frames before losing the back-end of a doubleheader 5-2. BSU closed the trip by rattling off three straight wins. The first two came versus Malone University 15-14 March 6 and 16-2 March 8 in a pair of nine-inning contests. The trip closed with a 5-2 victory March 9 against Rockford College.
The Beavers close nonconference play March 17-18 with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference member Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. Doubleheaders are slated for both days, as the teams will play two seven inning games.
Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
