BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University student-athletes Crystal Bowen (Jr., IF, Duluth, Minn.) and Logan Kalis (1B/RHP/OF, Jr., Little Falls, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of March 19-25.

Bowen, an infielder for the BSU softball team, went 5-for-11 (.455) in four Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) games March 24-25. She scored one of BSU’s four runs on the weekend in game two of Saturday’s series against Southwest Minnesota State University. She had three singles and a double as the Beavers went 0-4 versus the Mustangs and No. 13 Minnesota State University, Mankato.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks the first of Bowen’s career, while it stands as the third time this season a member of the Beavers’ softball team has been selected for the award.  She follows two-time honoree Courtney Anderson (Sr., RHP, Virginia, Minn.) who garnered the award March 7 and 14.

Kalis improved to 2-2 on the season with a 7-3 victory for the Bemidji State baseball team March 25, as he went the full seven innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Concordia University, St. Paul. He allowed two earned runs on four hits for a 2.57 ERA. Kalis posted six strikeouts and issued just one walk to 24 CU batters, holding the Golden Bears to a .167 batting average in the game. Each of the four hits he allowed were singles in his first complete game of the season. He threw 80 pitches, 56 for strikes, in the win.

Kalis hit .364 (4-for-11) against CU with two runs scored two walks and an RBI. Playing left field he totaled two putouts and one assist.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award also marks the first time Kalis has been honored by the organization, while it is the second of 2012 for the BSU baseball team. Jaryd Marks (Jr., RHP/1B, Cottage Grove, Minn.) was selected for the award last week.

The Bemidji State softball team, now 7-14 overall and 0-4 in NSIC action, hosts University of Minnesota, Crookston this afternoon for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. before embarking on a four-game weekend road trip.  The Beavers will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. for a twinbill at Augustana College Saturday and will move on to Wayne, Neb. Sunday for a doubleheader at Wayne State College.  Both days of league competition are set to begin at noon.

The BSU baseball team puts its 10-8 overall record and 3-1 mark in NSIC play to the test this weekend as it opens the home portion of its 2012 schedule.  The Beavers host University of Minnesota Duluth for a four-game series beginning with a 1:30 p.m. doubleheader Saturday followed by a twinbill at noon Sunday.
