SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Bemidji State University baseball team dropped one spot to No. 10 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Central Regional poll Tuesday. Ranked No. 9 last week, the Beavers are 12-10 overall and 5-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play to sit tied for fifth in the league standings after going 2-2 in the home opener March 31-April 1 against University of Minnesota Duluth.
BSU swept the first doubleheader against the Bulldogs 3-1 and 7-6 before being swept out of the second doubleheader 3-0 and 8-2. On day one, junior lefty Phil Bray improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in NSIC play with a complete game victory in game one, while senior Juan Molero (OF, Maracaibo, Venezuela) served as hero of game two with a bottom of the ninth sacrifice fly to center that scored sophomore Kean Paxton (2B, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) for the game-winning run. Junior Trevor Purvis (OF/P, Rio Rancho, N.M.) went 4-for-12 (.333) with a team-best three runs scored and an RBI in the four games. Junior Jaryd Marks (RHP/1B, Cottage Grove, Minn.) doubled in game one March 31 to post a hit in every game in March to record a team season-best hitting streak of 14 games (March 3-31), as BSU went 10-8 in the month.

BSU continues a 14-game homestand April 6-7 with a four-game NSIC series against Upper Iowa University. Doubleheaders are scheduled for each day with a 12 p.m. start slated.
