The Bemidji State University baseball team heads to the Tucson Invitational Games in Tucson, Ariz. for six contests between March 13-17.
BSU will battle a familiar foe it Southwest Minnesota State University (March 13 and March 14), Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference newcomer Minot State University (March 14 and March 16), Jamestown College (March 16) and Macalester College (Minn.) (March 17).

About Bemidji State: The Bemidji State baseball team swept University of Minnesota Duluth March 4 with 2-1 (9) and 13-6 victories to improve to 4-6 overall and complete the H.H.H. Metrodome season. BSU used an error by the UMD shortstop in the ninth inning of game one to find a one-run victory. The Beavers have competed in six, one-run outcomes and own a 2-4 record in those games. BSU has played three extra inning contests and are 2-1 in those games. Game two, the Beavers totaled 16 hits and posted three, four-run innings, which included the sixth and seventh frames to pull away from the Bulldogs.
About Southwest Minnesota State: The Mustangs are winless in their last six contests (0-5-1). SMSU has been at the Tucson Invitational since March 9 and are 0-4 at the Games. The Mustangs fell to Arizona Christian 9-1 March 9, then 6-4 and 3-1 in a doubleheader against Minot State before a March 11 12-8 loss to Dickinson State. Jarred Carlson leads the team with a .348 average and 10 RBIs.
About Minot State: Minot State (5-2) opened up their Tucson Invitational play with a test against Dakota Wesleyan University Saturday. Despite a three-run ninth inning, Minot State couldn’t get enough to get the win as it fell 4-3. Sunday, Minot State took on Southwest Minnesota State in a nonconference doubleheader. In game one, the bullpen propelled the Beavers to a 6-4 win. In game two against the Mustangs, Jesse Goertzen was dominant on the mound and shut down the SMSU attack. Goertzen’s performance matched with some timely hitting led MISU to a 3-1 win and a two game sweep.
About Jamestown College: Jamestown College is 5-4 overall and 1-3 at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Jimmies lost 9-6 in game one and 13-6 in game two to Arizona Christian March 10. The next day, JC split a double dip with Dordt College with a 4-3 loss before a 6-2 win.
About Macalester College: Macalester College is 3-4 in 2013 and are riding two big wins heading into the Tucson Invitational Games. The Scots defeated North Central (Minn.) at the H.H.H. Metrodome 13-1 and 15-5 in the doubleheader.
• The Beavers have produced 17 runs after the sixth inning and given up just five.
• BSU is 3-1 when scoring first.
• The Beavers have gone into extra innings three times this season (2-1) after only going past the scheduled number of innings once in 2012.
• Senior Logan Kalis owns a seven-game hitting streak. He has three multi-hit games and two multi-RBI games this season.
• Junior Zach Braun recorded a hit in the first five games of the season.
• Junior Miles Campbell has pitched 11.0 innings and has recorded a 0.82 ERA on one earned run off seven hits with five strikeouts.
