Marks named NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week

DALLAS – Senior right-hander Jaryd Marks (Cottage Grove, Minn.) was named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Central Region Pitcher of the Week May 1, in an announcement from the association. The regional honor from NCBWA is the first of the senior’s career and the second under eighth year head coach Tim Bellew, as senior Lewis Baumann (SS, Colorado Spring, Colo.) was named player of the week earlier this season from the NCBWA.

Marks posted a .593 batting average to guide the Beavers to a 6-0 week in NSIC play April 24-29. In 27 at-bats he recorded 16 hits, drove in 10 runs and added 10 runs scored. He totaled 20 bases and posted a .621 on-base percentage. The senior had a .741 slugging percentage and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage after 26 putouts and two assists. The first baseman recorded two four-hit games and two three-hit games during the week. In a game against Minot State University Monday, he went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. In 27 at-bats he had just one strikeout.

For his efforts, Marks was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Bemidji State (20-16, 11-9 NSIC) is scheduled to open the home portion of its schedule May 1 against Southwest Minnesota State University at 1p.m. at the BSU Baseball Field before concluding the regular season against nationally-ranked St. Cloud State University May 3-4.
