BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University senior catcher Zach Braun (Lakeville, Minn.) has been named Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week, after an outstanding athletic performance during the week of March 3-9.
Braun batted .538 in four games to help guide the Bemidji State baseball team to a 3-1 start to the 2014 season. He went 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate with nine RBIs, five runs scored and three home runs. He posted a 1.231 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage. He walked twice and was hit by pitch on three occasions to help him reach 16 total bases in the four games. He also stole two bases. In the field he owned a perfect fielding percentage with eight putouts.
He recorded two multi-hit games, which included a 3-for-3 effort against Mount Marty College March 9. Braun went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and four runs scored in the season opener versus Malone University March 8.
This week’s honor marks the first of Braun’s senior season and the first of 2014 for a member of the Beaver baseball team.
For his efforts, Braun was also named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week.
Bemidji State continues its 10-game spring trip with a nonconference doubleheader versus Southwest Minnesota State University March 12 at Keno Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz.
