PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Bemidji State University baseball team ended its time in Phoenix, Ariz. taking on Arizona Christian University Tuesday afternoon. A tie game after nine took the Beavers and Firestorm into extra innings where BSU would win in the 12th inning by a final score of 8-5.
Bemidji State, now 2-8 overall, will be back in action Wednesday, March 11 as they take on Southwest Minnesota State in a nonconference matchup from Tucson, Ariz. First pitch is set to start at 4:30 p.m. CT from the Kino Sports Complex. The Firestorm are now 8-15 on the season.

The Beavers came out quick on the Firestorm as Ben Boser doubled to score Tyler Nelson from second base and ended the inning with Jack Hegarty hitting a single for a 2-0 lead.
ACU was able to get on the board in the third as junior Eddie Hufford hit a lead off home run.
Scoring went stagnant until the sixth inning when Jake Tuholsky hit a double and then advanced to score on an error, which also scored Dylan Webb for a 4-1 lead over the Firestorm. Tate Erickson brought ACU back into the game though in the seventh off a two RBI single to trail 4-3.
In the bottom of the ninth Anthony Balderama singled with two runners on to tie the game up 4-4, sending it into extra innings. It was not until the 12th inning where the Beavers’ Joey Hanowski singled with bases loaded scoring two runs. Jack Hegarty followed grounding out to the short stop scoring one and Terry Hadden then singled to take an 8-4 lead.
Arizona Christian was able to score one run in the bottom half of the inning off a two out double but BSU got the third out on the next batter to seal an 8-5 victory.
Leading the Beavers at the plate was Hanowski and Hegarty as they both were 2-for-6 and each posted two RBI.
Pitcher of record for the Beavers was Michael Herd, pitching five innings of work allowing only five hits and struck out two batters. Herd is now 1-0 on the season. Also seeing action on the mound was Derek Masberg for the first six innings and Evan Rowe for one inning. Brett Swartz was the pitcher of record for the Firestorm as he had two innings of work on the mound.
