BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University baseball team caps off the toughest stretch of its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule with a doubleheader Wednesday versus No. 2 St. Cloud State University before a weekend trip to University of Mary. The Beavers (11-31, 8-18 NSIC) and Huskies (30-4, 15-4 NSIC) throw the first pitch of the two-game series at 2 p.m. at BSU Baseball Field while the Beavers and Marauders (6-30, 4-19 NSIC) play two doubleheaders beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday.

The NSIC doubleheaders consist of a seven-inning game one and a nine-inning game two.

About Bemidji State

  • Bemidji State went 2-4 last week, taking a two-game sweep from Minot State and falling in four to Minnesota Duluth
  • BSU first beat Minot State in Minot, N.D., 4-2 and 18-13, to open the week Wednesday
  • The Bulldogs entered Bemidji, Minn., to beat the Beavers 10-4, 20-8, 4-3 and 10-6, with the final game ending in 10 innings
  • First baseman Mason Bellew hit three of his four home runs on the season during the six game stretch, one coming on each day of doubleheaders
  • Outfielder Scott Litchy led the team with a .480 batting average and nine RBI while adding his fourth triple of the season
  • Litchy, with 47 RBI on the season, ranks third on BSU’s single-season RBI list
  • Outfielder Tyler Nelson extended his program single-season hit record to 76 with 12 on the week
  • Nelson also ranks tied for first on the program’s single-season triples list with five, followed by Litchy who is tied for second with four, and ranks fifth on the single-season batting average list, hitting .439 in 2016
  • Nelson recorded the program’s second-longest hit streak earlier this season, totaling 18 games between Feb. 12 and March 26, and leads the program’s history with a .373 batting average and eight triples
  • Third baseman Joey Hanowski, the program’s all-time leading hitter with 199, is currently on a career-long 13-game hit streak that began April 10 at Winona State
  • Hanowski and Nelson are currently tied for sixth on the program’s single-season run list with 39 through 42 games
  • Left-hander Nate Heisick took a win at Minot State with a 3.60 ERA and six strikeouts, while right-hander Ryan Fransen finished with a no decision and set a career-high eight strikeouts in the final game against UMD

About St. Cloud State

  • The Huskies currently own a 30-4 overall record and a 15-4 record in the NSIC
  • The Huskies enjoyed a bye week April 23-24 and will now return to play with a NSIC twin bill at Bemidji State on April 27
  • Senior Reese Gregory was the Daktronics DII Pitcher of the Year in 2015 and this year he is making a major impact at the plate with team leading .453 batting average and a stellar .953 slugging rate. He paces the Huskies with 13 homers this season
  • Senior Karl Sorensen leads SCSU with 48 RBI and 56 hits
  • SCSU leads all DII teams this spring with a .384 batting average, 1.91 home runs per game, 3.09 doubles per game, 10.7 runs per game and a .657 slugging percentage
  • The Huskies have outscored their opponents 365-143 in 2016

About U-Mary

  • McKeon Meyhoff struck out a career-high 11 hitters in five innings in a 5-3 loss to Minnesota Crookston. Meyhoff allowed four hits and five walks and all three runs were unearned
  • McKeon Meyhoff became the Marauders all-time career leader in innings pitched (209.1) and strikeouts (147) in the UMC start
  • Jake Johnson set career-high in strikeouts with 10 in six innings of relief against UMC. He allowed one run on four hits and four walks. Earlier in the week he gave up three runs in six innings with five strikeouts against #2 SCSU. For the week he had a 3.00 ERA in 12 innings, striking out 15 with eight walks
  • Johnson is 28th in hits allowed/9 innings (6.37), 55th nationally in WHIP (1.07) and 192nd in ERA (3.29)
  • Connor Doll hit .529/.600/.588 in six games last week. He was 9-of-17 with six runs scored, a double and five RBI
  • Jason Shaul is sixth nationally in on-base percentage (.543) and 75th in batting average (.406)
  • Tom Imholte is 20th nationally in on-base percentage (.526) and 32nd in hitting (.430)
