BEMIDJI, Minn. -- BSU Baseball Field opens its 2017 schedule this week as Bemidji State University baseball hosts Concordia University-St. Paul and University of Sioux Falls in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. The Beavers and Golden Bears begin the week with a doubleheader Thursday, March 30 while the Beavers and Cougars play two doubleheaders Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2.

Bemidji State Overview

  • Bemidji State went 3-3 over its last weekend of action against University of Minnesota Duluth and Winona State University.
  • The Beavers dropped two non-conference games to the Bulldogs Thursday, March 23 at US Bank Stadium, 16-3 and 6-1.
  • BSU won the series against WSU, 3-1, while winning the final three games of the series. After an 8-3 loss to Winona State, Bemidji State closed with 5-2, 6-1 and 4-2 wins at Loughrey Field.
  • BSU hit .262 from the plate with a .322 on-base percentage and totaled a 5.73 ERA and fielded .964 during the spring trip.


About Concordia-St. Paul

  • The Golden Bears are led by 18th-year head coach Mark “Lunch” McKenzie.
  • Concordia-St. Paul took one of a four-game series at home against Minot State University.
  • Minot State took the first three games of the series, 12-0, 6-5 and 6-4, before Concordia-St. Paul won the finale, 3-2.
  • CSP is hitting .282 from the plate and have a 4.76 ERA with a .971 fielding percentage.


About Sioux Falls

  • The Cougars are led by first-year head coach Grant Hieb.
  • Sioux Falls split a four-game series with University of Minnesota Crookston to enter the week 6-11 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
  • USF won the first and third games of the series, 4-3 and 13-6, and fell in the second and fourth games, 9-4 and 2-0.
  • The Cougars are hitting .303 from the plate and have an 8.13 ERA with a .965 fielding percentage.


Back in the Lineup

  • Junior outfielder Scott Litchy made his impact felt in his first games back from injury while hitting two home runs in the final day against Winona State.
  • Litchy hit a two-run dinger in BSU’s 6-1 win, finishing with three RBIs in the game, before a solo shot in the team’s 4-2 victory.
  • Litchy finished the Winona State series hitting .286 from the plate with four of his five hits driving in runs.


Starting on the Mound

  • Three of the Beavers’ four starting pitchers against Winona State threw at least 6.0 innings while the entire pitching staff totaled a 2.32 ERA.
  • Junior Connor McNallan threw his second consecutive complete game in game two while seniors Ryan Fransen and Jack Stigman each totaled seven strikeouts in their winning starts.
