BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University baseball program gets into its 2018 spring trip with games Thursday, March 8 against Upper Iowa University and March 10-11 at Maryville University. The Beavers and Peacocks wrap up the US Bank Stadium games in Minneapolis followed by the official start of the spring trip in St. Louis.

About Upper Iowa

  • Among the team’s four starters returning are its Players to Watch, Brett Fanning and Jacob Greco.

About Maryville

  • The Saints are in their first season under head coach Bryan Niedbalski, who has been a part of the coaching staff since 2015.
  • After starting the season 5-4 overall, Maryville was swept in a four-game series to Saginaw Valley State University in its last weekend of action.
  • MU fell, 5-4, before a doubleheader sweep of 8-5 and 5-2, with a series finale loss of 7-3 at home.
  • Maryville held a lead twice over the four-game series, neither lead making it past the second inning, though.
  • The Saints rank fifth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with a .281 batting average and .390 on-base percentage, and sixth with a .956 fielding percentage.

  • Senior outfielder/infielder Scott Litchy was the team’s most potent batter at the plate in 2017, leading the team with a .350 batting average, 29 runs scored, nine home runs, 38 RBIs and .642 slugging percentage.
  • He also led BSU with 16 multiple hit games and nine multiple RBI games.
  • Litchy totaled a 16-game reached base streak midway through the 2017 season.
  • On the base paths, Litchy went 8-for-9 on stolen base attempts to rank tied for second on the team.
