Spencer Erickson begins his first season with Beaver Football in 2017 with responsibilities over the outside linebackers. Erickson joins BSU after spending the past five seasons on the coaching staff at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, overseeing outside linebackers.
Outside linebacker, Gabe Ames was named to the All-Confrence Second Team Defense under the coaching at Erickson. Throughout the 2017 season Erickson coached the Beavers to ranking fifth in the conference for rushing defense. Bemidji State's rushing defense averaged 104.9 yards per game and only 2.6 yards per play.
Erickson and the Titans reached its first national championship title in program history after completing the 2016 season with a 13-2 record. UW-Oshkosh fell to University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), 10-7, in the national title game. UW-Oshkosh ranked fifth in the nation with 12.7 points per game allowed to opponents. Erickson's efforts also helped the defense rank among the top 15 in the nation in interceptions (3rd), turnover margin (5th), fumble recoveries (tied-5th), passing efficiency defense (7th) and total defense (15th).
UW-Oshkosh finished the past two seasons with Erickson on staff with double-digit win totals. Erickson began his career as a defensive quality control during his freshman year in 2012. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary education from UW-Oshkosh in 2016 and is currently working towards his master's degree at Bemidji State.
