Beaver Pride names Ford and Knutson as its Athletes of the Week
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Jamie Ford (R-Sr., For., Edina, Minn.) and Luke Knutson (Jr., OLB, 6-0, 206, Bagley, Minn.)  have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after posting outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of Sept. 20-26.

Ford collected a total of five points last weekend scoring one goal and assisting on three others. In Saturday’s 3-2 win over No. 24 Winona State University, Ford picked up assists on the first-two BSU goals, to help claim Bemidji State’s second-ever win over WSU. On Sunday against Upper Iowa University, Ford assisted on the first goal of the game and then later scored BSU’s only goal of the second half.

Ford is now tied for second-place on BSU’s all-time points scoring list with 71.

This marks the second time Beaver Pride has recognized Ford as one of its athletes of the week.  She was also honored for superb play Nov. 5, 2008.  She stands as the third BSU soccer student-athlete be honored by the organization this season following Analey Skog (Sept. 15)and last week’s winner Alysha Domiano.

Knutson recovered a fumble and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Beaver football team’s loss to No. 2 University of Minnesota Duluth Saturday. The score was the first of his career and gave BSU 21 points, the most a team has been able to muster against the Bulldogs in 2010. Knutson also added five tackles, three solo and two assisted, one of which was for a loss of two yards.

Prior to Knutson’s touchdown, the last time BSU scored a TD on a fumble return was Sept. 19, 2004 by Seth Iverson (62 yds) versus Wisconsin-River Falls.

The award marks the first of its kind for Knutson, while it stands as the fourth consecutive week a member of the BSU football team has been recognized by Beaver Pride.

The BSU football team, now 2-2 on the season, hosts Upper Iowa Saturday for the team’s annual Homecoming game.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Chet Anderson Stadium.

Ford and the BSU soccer team will take their 6-1 overall record and 3-1 mark versus NSIC competition on the road this weekend as they travel to Concordia University-St. Paul and St. Cloud State University.  Saturday’s match up with the Golden Bears is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Sea Foam Stadium, while Sunday’s affair with the Huskies will take place at 3:00 p.m. and Husky Stadium.
