Leonhardt earns Offensive MVP honors at Texas vs The Nation Game

Former Bemidji State University tight end Brian Leonhardt competed in the Texas vs The Nation Game Saturday and excelled in the Senior All-Star Game, typically reserved for Division I talent. He posted four receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown to earn Offensive Most Valuable Player honors in a 24-13 Nation victory.


Leonhardt to appear in Texas vs The Nation Game Feb. 2

Typically reserved for NCAA Division I-A student-athletes, the Texas vs The Nation Game has provided a pipeline to the National Football League for senior football players since 2007. Every once in a while, a FCS Division I or Division II player finds their name on the roster and this year, that player is Bemidji State University tight end Brian Leonhardt (Blaine, Minn.).


Crosby and DeLange earn Don Hansen All-Super Region Three honors

The Don Hansen Football Committee today announced Bemidji State University football seniors Cory Crosby (ILB, Cold Spring, Minn.) and Brett DeLange (OL, Plainfield, Ill.) 2012 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Three Third Team honorees.


Bemidji State season in review

The Bemidji State University football team returned 16 starters from the 2011, 8-3 team and had high expectations for the 2012 season. The squad definitely didn’t expect to be sitting 1-3 four games into the season. But that is what the Beavers’ record was heading into Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North play. With a strong group of upperclassmen, including 18 seniors, Bemidji State came together and went 6-1 in the NSIC North to earn a share of the division title.

Crosby awarded Daktronics Super Region #3 First Team Defense

After piling up 108 tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks, senior Cory Crosby (ILB, Cold Spring, Minn.) earned 2012 Daktronics Super Region #3 First Team Defense honors, announced today by the Super Region #3 chair. The senior racked up the most votes at the linebacker position in the voting.


NSIC North Division Champions Banquet set for Dec. 8

The Bemidji State University football team went 7-4 in 2012 and posted a 6-1 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division to earn a share of the 2012 NSIC North Division Title. With a 49-0 victory Saturday, the Bemidji State University football team earned a share of the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division title. The Beavers scored 21 points off defensive turnovers to claim the victory against Minot State University. The win improved BSU to 6-1 in the NSIC North, sharing the title with University of Minnesota Duluth.

The Bemidji State University football team (6-4; 6-4 NSIC, 5-1 NSIC North) plays for a share of the NSIC North Division title Nov. 10 on Senior Day for 17 student-athletes. The Bemidji State University football team totaled 497 yards of offense in a 35-25 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory against visiting Minnesota State University Moorhead Saturday. The win not only improves BSU to 6-4 overall and 5-1 in the NSIC North, but keeps the traveling trophy between the teams, the Battle Axe, in Bemidji for the fourth straight season.

Since 1948 Bemidji State University and Minnesota State University Moorhead have been playing for more than just a W. Sixty-four times the teams have met on the gridiron to stake claim to a traveling trophy called The Battle Axe – an ancient weapon from New Guinea. Senior quarterback Lance Rongstad (Eleva, Wis.) totaled 341 yards of offense and was responsible for four touchdowns to guide the Bemidji State football team to a 37-20 NSIC victory at St. Cloud State Saturday. The win marks the first for the Beavers at SCSU since 1965 and improves BSU to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC North to remain tied for the division lead.

Bemidji State Football Camp: Check-in Day

About 105 Bemidji State University football student-athletes reported to camp for the 2012 season Friday. The players conducted paperwork and got their equipment, as testing and the first practice begins Saturday.


Bemidji State football tabbed sixth in NSIC Coaches' Poll

The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced today the members of the 2012 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which includes Bemidji State University football senior student-athletes Josh Beste (DL, East Grand Forks, Minn.), Brody Scheff (S, Waconia, Minn.) and Dusty Sluzewicz (S, Homer Glen, Ill.).


Wicked White downs Gang Green 49-25 in Green/White Spring Game

The Wicked White offense prevailed 49-25 against the Gang Green defense in the annual Bemidji State University football Green/White Spring Game at Chet Anderson Stadium Thursday that capped 2012 spring practice for the Beavers. The quarterbacking crew of senior Lance Rongstad (Eleva Wis.), junior Alex Hass (Milaca, Minn.) and sophomore Sam King (Grand Forks, N.D.) combined to go 20-for-29 for 282 yards and three touchdowns.


Bemidji State Green/White Game set for Thursday

The Bemidji State University football team will wrap-up its spring practices Thursday, April 19 as it hosts its annual Green/White Game at 7 p.m. The scrimmage will be held at Chet Anderson Stadium and is free and open to the public. Tailgating will begin at 5 p.m. in Diamond Point Park.


Tesch releases 2012 schedule

Bemidji State University head football coach Jeff Tesch today released the 2012 football schedule as the Beavers are on the field with spring practices underway. BSU has six home games on the schedule and will play both the new Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference members for 2012-13 in University of Sioux Falls and Minot State University.


Beaver football youth camp set for April 19

The Bemidji State University football team will host its annual Youth Football Camp Thursday, April 19 at Chet Anderson Stadium for all kids currently in grades K-6. Camp registration opens at 4 p.m. and the cost is $15 per participant.


Football Spring Ball Opens

The Bemidji State football team took to the practice field Friday afternoon to open spring ball. Rains plagued the Bemidji area Friday morning but the skies cleared up as the Beavers took the field at 3:30 with temperatures in the mid-50s. The March 23 start date is the earliest BSU has gotten on the field during spring practice during the Jeff Tesch era. The Beavers will have 14 practices leading up to the April 19 Spring Game at Chet Anderson Stadium at 7 p.m.

Bemidji State University head football coach Jeff Tesch today announced the addition of 34 student-athletes to the BSU roster for the 2012 season. Of the 34 commitments, 16 signed National Letters of Intent, two are transfers and 16 have inked offers of admission to attend Bemidji State.


Signing Day press conference set for Feb. 1 at 3:30 p.m.

February 1 officially marks the beginning of the 2012 season for the Bemidji State University football and women’s soccer programs as they announce their 2012 signing classes. A live press conference is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. in room 230 of the Physical Education Building on the campus of BSU.
