Beaver football youth camp set for April 19

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University football team will host its annual Youth Football Camp Thursday, April 19 at Chet Anderson Stadium for all kids currently in grades K-6. Camp registration opens at 4 p.m. and the cost is $15 per participant.

Current BSU football coaches and student-athletes will be conducting on-field fundamental football instructions on throwing, catching, blocking, kicking and tackling. Included in the registration fee is a Beaver football t-shirt, picnic lunch and the opportunity to get autographs from Bemidji State coaches and athletes.

Registration for the event begins at 4 p.m. with the youth camp starting at 5 p.m. A picnic lunch and autograph session will follow at 6 p.m. and the event will be capped with the annual BSU Green and White Scrimmage starting at 7 p.m. The spring game is free and open to the public. In the event of bad weather, the camp will be moved indoors to the Gillett Recreation Center on campus.

The Beavers were ranked in the national poll on three different occasions in 2011 and finished the campaign with an 8-3 overall record and a 7-3 mark in the NSIC to finish in a three-way tie for fourth in the league standings. The eight-win season marked the eighth time in program history the team had reached eight wins in a season and the sixth time under Tesch. The Beaver offense finished the season averaging 26.8 points per game, while the ‘Gang Green’ defense was one of the best in the conference allowing just 16.0 points per contest to rank No. 7 in the nation at the end of the regular season.
