BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University football sophomore Gunner Olszewski earned his first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference accolade of the season Tuesday after being named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Week.
Olszewski set a career high in tackles with 17, nine-solo and eight-assisted, leading the NSIC. The Alvin, Texas native also recovered a fumble and recorded an interception in the fourth quarter to guide the Beavers to a 38-24 win over Upper Iowa University.
The weekly award marks the second of Olszewski’s career, also earning NSIC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 2, 2015.
The Bemidji State football program continues the 2016 season by travelling to Minnesota State University, Mankato Saturday. The Beavers and Mavericks will kick-off at 6 p.m. from Blakeslee Stadium.
