Vogeler named D2CCA Football All-Super Region Four First Team

RUSSELVILLE, Ark. -- Junior defensive back John Vogeler earned a nod to the 2017 D2CCA Football All-Super Region Four First Team Defense that was released Friday. Vogeler becomes the third Beaver defensive back to earn a spot on the All-Super Region Four team in the past two seasons.

Vogeler, a junior safety from Alexandria, Minn., tied for the Beavers’ team lead with five interceptions, including three returns for touchdowns. His three defensive touchdowns were half of BSU’s total for the season, which ranked third in the NCAA. Vogeler finished his junior campaign with 46 tackles, 28 solo and 18 assisted, to rank sixth on BSU. He also added 2.0 tackles for a loss and six pass breakups in 2017.

Vogeler joins former Beaver safety and current graduate assistant coach Damon Benham and junior corner back Gunner Olszewski as members of the D2CCA All-Super Region Team since last season. Benham was a first team defense selection while Olszewski was placed on the second team.

Texas A&M University-Commerce quarterback Luis Perez was named the D2CCA Super Region Four Offensive Player of the Year while Central Washington University linebacker Kevin Haynes was selected as the Super Region Four Defensive Player of the Year.

Bemidji State finished the 2017 season 8-3 overall and has compiled 24 wins in Vogeler’s three seasons with the program. The Beaver secondary ranked third in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with 20 total interceptions and second with a 100.7 pass defense efficiency.
