Henning selected to prestigious 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®

NORTHBROOK, Ill. -- Bemidji State University football junior quarterback Jared Henning was announced as one of 22 members to the 2018 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team®. The Good Works Team® designation celebrates Henning’s unparalleled commitment to the Bemidji community.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® has recognized student-athletes and an honorary head coach from across all four divisions for more than 25 years in an effort to celebrate their commitment to making a lasting impact off the field.

Henning has been on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) since his freshman year in 2015, first serving as a member before becoming vice president in 2016 and serving as president in 2017. As president, Henning is in charge of several responsibilities including raising money for Make-A-Wish through fundraisers, coordinating Halloween in the BSU dorms, setting up the Mr. Beaver competition and helping set up Mental Health Awareness/Sexual Violence Prevention presentations. Since Henning took over as president of SAAC, he has helped establish Beaver Fever Fridays, which is an opportunity for Beaver student-athletes to read to youth in the community, and babysitting at BSU on Valentine’s Day.

As president of SAAC, Henning also attends the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference SAAC Summit once a year to take part in community outreach, leadership conventions and discussions about the conference as a whole. He also serves as the representative for all male sports on campus in regards to Title IX issues. Henning attends a meeting twice a year with a variety of faculty to discuss Title IX initiatives on campus. In addition, Henning is also a lead member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes on campus. He helps lead devotions at FCA’s weekly meetings and finds others to lead devotions.

Henning and the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® members will be invited to New Orleans to participate in a special community service project ahead of the 2018 Allstate Sugar Bowl, where the entire team will also be recognized on the field at halftime.

An esteemed voting panel, including two-time national champion and former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® member Tim Tebow, helped selected the 22 individuals out of 169 nominations.

Fans are encouraged to visit ESPN.com/Allstate to vote for Henning as the 2018 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Captain now through Nov. 23, 2018. The Team Captain will be honored at this season’s The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.
