Passed for 2,082 yards completing 159 of 296 passes and totaled 26 passing touchdowns with a season long of 76 yards... Finished in the top quarterbacks in the NSIC in: total offense with 213.9 yards per game (4th), passing with 189.3 yards per game (5th), and total passing yards with 2,082 (1st)... Led the third ranked BSU offense in the NSIC with 2,227 rushing yards and 2,134 passing yards... 2016 (Jr): Selected as team captain... Played in 10 games for the season totaling 443 rushing yards including 8 rushing touchdowns... Passed for 3007 total yards completing 171 of 300 passes... Recorded 31 total passing touchdowns with a long of 90 yards... Set a career high in completions (27) vs Wayne State (Sept. 17) as well as rushing yards (101) at U-Mary (Oct. 1)... Produced a total 443 all-purpose yards averaging 44.3 yards per game and generated 345 average total offense yards per game... Named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week twice (Sept. 12 & Oct. 31)... Named on the 2016 NSIC All-Conference Second Team Offense... Selected to the 2016 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Three team... Awarded Offensive MVP in the 2016 Mineral Water Bowl... Broke multiple BSU career records including: total passing yards (6,116), total touchdowns responsible for (77) and passing touchdowns (59)... Also set the BSU single-season passing efficiency record (167.4) and tied the previous record of 27 touchdown passes in one season... 2015 (So): Was named to the All-NSIC First Team, Team Offensive MVP... Played quarterback in all eleven games and started ten… Set the season record for attempted (356) and completed passes (202) in Beaver history as well as ranked in the top 10 for the Beavers in total touchdowns (30, 2nd), passing yardage (2,407, 3rd), touchdown passes (22, 7th), completion percentage (.567, 7th) and 250-yard passing games (3rd, 5th)… Rushed for a total of 128 times for 570 yards… Led the conference in fewest interceptions thrown (4), ranked fifth in touchdown passes (22), as well as sixth in passing yards per game (218.8)… Threw for a career high 363 yards passing at Northern State (Nov. 14) and five touchdowns at Minnesota State Moorhead (Oct. 17).
2014 (Fr): Played in 11 games, started in three, at quarterback... Went 79-for-165 (47.9%) for 963 yards (87.5 ypg) along with 10 touchdown passes... Had an efficiency rating of 106.0... Led the team with 361 rushing yards in 107 rushing attempts along with three rushing touchdowns... Had career-highs at St. Cloud State (Nov. 1) with 230 passing yards on 17 completions with his season long pass of 46 yards and three passing touchdowns... Set career-highs for rushing at Wayne State (Sept. 6) with 83 rushing yards along with a 41 yard scramble... Had a two rushing touchdown game at Upper Iowa (Sept. 9).
Prior to BSU: Redshirted at NCAA Division I University of Northern Iowa in 2013… Quarterbacked Perham High School to the state semifinal in 2012 and was named Associated Press All-State First Team, Minnesota Vikings All-State and was invited to participate in the Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game… Named most valuable player of the Heart of the Lakes Conference as a junior and senior and was a three-time all-conference performer… The three-year captain holds school records in rushing yards (3,443), rushing touchdowns (45), touchdowns responsible for (83), touchdowns scored (47 – 45 rush, 2 return), all-purpose yards (3,823), total points scored (286), total offense (6,894), total offense in a game (172.4) and longest fumble return (92 yards)… Guided the team to section championships in 2011 and 2012… Also a four-year letterwinner on the Yellowjacket boys basketball team and played one year of varsity baseball… Captained the basketball team and was named all-conference as a senior… Helped the team to a Minnesota State Championship in 2011 and a third-place finish in 2012… Also all-conference member on the baseball squad in 2011… Honored as academic all-state, both as a team and individual… A National Honor Society member.
Personal: Born March 24, 1995… Son of Terry and Tracy Hein… Intends to major in education at BSU… Brother, Jesse, is the starting center for the Beavers… Father, Terry, played football at North Dakota State School of Science… Mother, Tracy, played volleyball at University of North Dakota… Grandpa, Ben Ward, played football at Brandon University (Manitoba).
