Zach Riopelle begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Bemidji State football program in 2019. Prior to joining the Beavers, Riopelle served as the head coach at Richland High School in North Dakota.
Riopelle was named the head coach at RHS in 2018 after working as the offensive and defensive line coach and special teams coordinator in 2015 and 2016. In his first season as an assistant coach, Riopelle helped RHS to a state championship. He was then named defensive coordinator with a focus on linebackers and offensive line in 2017 before being selected as the team's head coach in 2018. Riopelle earned 2018 Region 1 North Dakota 9-Man Head Football Coach of the Year.
Riopelle played one season at North Dakota State University after graduating from Warren-Alvarado Olson High School in 2012. He was a two-time honorable mention all-state player, two-time all-conference, three-time all-section selection and named the 2011 North Star Conference Offensive Back of the Year.
Riopelle graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in secondary physical education and health. Riopelle's brother, Christopher, played football at Bemidji State (2003-06) while his sister, Lacey, also atteneded BSU.
