Former Bemidji State University men’s basketball player and Daktronics Division II Men’s Basketball Ron Lenz National Player of the Year James Ellisor (F, Glendale, Ariz.) has been selected to participate in a closed pre-draft try-out Wednesday, May 9 with the Minnesota Timberwolves of the National Basketball Association.

University of Minnesota Duluth today announced it has hired former Bemidji State University men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen to succeed long-time head coach Gary Holquist at the helm the Bulldogs’ men’s basketball program. Bowen leaves BSU after six years at the helm of the Beaver basketball program.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced Thursday Bemidji State University men’s basketball senior forward James Ellisor (Glendale, Ariz.) was named to the NABC Coaches’ Division II All-America Team, selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC. The honor is the second All-America team he has been named to this week after earning national player of the year and first team awards from Daktronics, Inc. Tuesday.

The honor is the first of its kind in the 90 years of men’s basketball at BSU, while his All-America award makes him the third Beaver student-athlete to earn All-America status in program history.

The Bemidji State men’s basketball team had a not-so-comfortable three point lead with 21 seconds to go in regulation Saturday, but Minnesota State University Moorhead erased the advantage with one shot with eight seconds to go, forcing overtime in the NSIC battle. MSU Moorhead went on to win that OT session 17-10 and ran away from the BSU Gymnasium with an 84-77 victory.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team did what they needed to do find a 67-61 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory at Wayne State College Sunday. The Beavers uncharacteristically committed 16 turnovers and shot just 69.7 percent from the charity stripe, but was an efficient 56.8 percent from the field in the victory that improved their record to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the NSIC.

Not just because he plays two sports in college, but what he brings to the table as a starting quarterback and starting guard/forward. Oh yeah, and that ‘student’ part in student-athlete? He does that pretty well too, holding down a 3.6 GPA in biology.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference annual meetings concluded Thursday, July 14 in St. Cloud, Minn. with league and institution administrators deciding on some significant issues for the 2012-13 school year. With the additions of University of Sioux Falls and Minot State University to the NSIC for the 2012-13 season, the league will move to a 16-team conference, forcing the administrators to make some changes in regards to divisions and postseason play.

The Bemidji State men’s basketball team upped its free throw percentage just 0.1 of a percent last weekend, but jumped two spots to No. 3 nationally in the category, according to the latest NCAA National Statistics Summary for Division II (games thru Jan. 23). The women’s team has been a top 25 free throw shooting team all season long and moved up a spot from No. 22 to No. 21.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team was unable to recover from an overtime loss from the night before and fell to Concordia University, St. Paul 79-73 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at Gangelhoff Center. Junior Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) had six assists in the game, tying BSU’s all-time career assists record (Since 1976) with 314 career helpers.

A 17-8 run during the final 4:25 of regulation powered the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team to a 77-77 tie with less than 30 seconds remaining. A missed St. Cloud State Universiy shot sent the game into overtime, but the Beavers fell short in the extra session, losing the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at Halenbeck Hall 92-88.

Haake was a two-time NSIC All-Academic Team member and a constant on BSU’s 3.0 Club during his tenure as a Beaver.

He finished his career at BSU with 1,202 career points, which stands 10th on BSU’s career scoring chart.

WSC shot 63.5 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from 3-point land. BSU couldn’t find its shooting rhythm, going 16-of-45 (a season-low 35.6%) from the field and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from beyond the arc.

On multiple occasions, the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team was able to play strong defense for the majority of a possession in the 67-65 loss to Northern State University Friday in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at the BSU Gymnasium. But on multiple occasions, NSU was able to find a way to make a shot with just seconds left on the shot clock.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team trailed for most of a 78-66 loss to Wayne State College Sunday, but made a run to tie the game 62-62 with 4:31 left in the regulation before running out of gas in the final minutes of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game played at the BSU Gymnasium. The Wildcats shot 58.3 percent from the field, the most by a BSU opponent this season.

Senior Seth Haake (G, Eden Prairie, Minn.) recorded his fourth consecutive game with 20-plus points, scoring a game-high 24.

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team fell to Northern Michigan University 84-75 in a nonconference game to close out the 2009 calendar year. Senior Seth Haake (G, Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored a season-high 27 points.
The Beavers (5-5, 2-2 NSIC) held a 38-35 lead at halftime, thanks to 19 points from Haake. BSU earned a seven point lead at the 13:54 mark of the second half with the score standing at 51-44. The Wildcats then went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at the 11:31 mark. NMU kept rolling and took a 10 point lead at 64-54 with 6:46 on the clock. The home team never looked back on its way to a nine point win.
Freshman Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) scored 13 points and added eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Bryce Tesdahl (Crosby, Minn.) scored 11 points, added seven rebounds and had five assists.
BSU returns to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play as it hosts Augustana College Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
