MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. -- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference offices announced today that junior forward Sherwin Johnson (Macon, Ga.) is the NSIC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 17-23.

“ Sherwin is probably our most consistent player from beginning (of the season) till now,” said head coach Jeff Guiot. “He was the difference maker in the third overtime (against Pittsburg State). He is a very good player and we count on him to do big things for us.”

Johnson, a junior college transfer from Pratt CC (Kan.), notched his first career BSU double-double (18 points, 14 rebounds) in the 103-100 triple overtime victory over Pittsburg State (KS) on Saturday. Johnson scored six of BSU’s 11 points in the third overtime frame. He added one block and one steal in 41 minutes of action.

On Friday in the 97-80 victory over Missouri Southern, Johnson recorded 13 points, four rebounds in 19 minutes of action. He was an efficient four-of-six (.667) from the floor, including two-of-three (.667) from long range.

In the two games at the Pepsi-Edge3D Classic hosted by Pittsburg State, Johnson was 10-of-17 (.588) from the floor with a .429 (three-of-seven) mark from long range, hit on eight-of-11 free throws (.727), grabbed 18 rebounds (9.0 rpg), totaled two assists, two steals and one block while scoring 31 points (15.5 ppg).

Bemidji State continues its tough non-conference schedule first by hosting Jamestown Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.; the Jimmies are No. 1 in the NAIA preseason polls. Then, BSU travels to Brookings, S.D., for the South Dakota State Thanksgiving Classic, Nov. 28-29. The Beavers will face host No. 15 SDSU, Friday at 8:00 p.m. and No. 3 South Dakota at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
