Beaver Basketball Squads Advance to Second Round

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Winning in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Quarterfinals Wednesday at home, the Bemidji State men’s and women’s basketball teams advance to the NSIC Semifinals set for Saturday, Mar. 6. The Beaver men, who avenged their heart-breaking loss to Minnesota State, Moorhead in last season’s Tournament, slid past the Dragons, 75-62, last night (Wednesday) at the BSU Gymnasium. The fourth-seeded Beaver women, playing on their home court in the NSIC Quarterfinals for the first time in school history, downed fifth-seeded Winona State, 72-62 last night.

The BSU men, who notched its school record 20th win last night, will battle the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Saturday, Mar. 6 at 2 p.m. Meanwhile, the women will also go up against the Bulldogs with game-time slated for 4 p.m. Both semifinal contests will take place at the Gangelhoff Center on the campus of Concordia-St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. The semifinal winners will compete for the Tournament crown, Sunday at the Gangelhoff Center. The women’s championship is set for 2 p.m. with the men to conclude at 4 p.m.

It marks the first time in the five-year history of the NSIC Tournament that both Beaver teams will compete in the second round.

The winner of the NSIC Tournament automatically qualifies for the North Central Region NCAA Tournament, March 13-14, 16, held at the top seed in the region.
