BSU Has Three Players Selected to the Chuck Stephens' Classic All-Classic Team

PUEBLO, Colo. – Bemidji State University had three players honored for their play during the Chuck Stephens’ Classic in Pueblo, Colo. Saturday. Junior guard Duane Fields (Los Angeles, Calif.), senior forward Amir Major (Chicago, Ill.) and junior guard Alvin Muse (South Holland, Ill.) were each named to the all-classic team while Fields took home the classic’s top honor as he was selected as the event’s Most Valuable Player.

Fields averaged 15.5 points and four rebounds per game while leading the team shooting 47.8 percent from the field (11-23) and 64.3 percent (9-14) from downtown in two starts at the classic. He single-handedly delivered a 75-73 win versus Colorado State-Pueblo recording a BSU-high 21 points while scoring 18 of those in the first half. He finished the game having hit 7-of-13 shots with all seven of his successful attempts coming from beyond the three-point arc. He followed that up by scoring 10 in the 87-67 win over New Mexico Highlands Saturday.

Making his first two starts of the season in Pueblo, Colo., Amir Major responded by leading the team totaling 16.5 points and seven rebounds per game. He recorded a career-best 20 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double lifting BSU to its win over NMHU, leading BSU in both scoring and on the boards. In Friday night’s game versus the Thunderwolves, he grabbed an errant BSU shot and put it back, for two of his 13 points, to give the Beavers the lead (75-73) an eventually the win with less than 30 seconds to play.

Muse rounds out the group averaging 15.5 points and four rebounds in a reserve role for the Beavers this weekend. He tallied 12 points on 4-of-9 from the field Friday and followed that up with a 19-point, 7-for-12 shooting night Saturday. He connected on a team-high five of his nine three-point attempts in the game while registering a team-best three steals.

BSU garnered the largest number of representatives on the all-classic team with three. Other joining Fields, Major and Muse for the honor were:

The Chuck Stephens' Classic All-Classic Team was voted on by members of the media and participating coaches of the event.

The Beavers wrapped up the classic 2-0 and the Colorado road trip 2-2. The Beavers are now 5-5 overall will return to Bemidji, Minn. for a Dec. 8th match-up with St. Cloud State University. The 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the BSU Gymnasium will be preceded by a special ceremony unveiling the newly replaced playing surface at the facility and honoring the family of the financial force behind the project.
