2006 NSIC/Red Baron Basketball Classic brackets announced BSU men seeded third; women garner fifth seed

ST. PAUL, Minn. – [women's bracket][men's bracket] With the dust settled on the 2005-06 regular season, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference office has announced the final standings and seedings for the 2006 NSIC/Red Baron Basketball Classic. The Bemidji State University men will host their quarterfinal match-up while the BSU women will hit the road for their first round contest.

Posting a 9-5 record versus the NSIC the BSU men have earned the third seed and the right to host its quarterfinal match-up. The Bemidji Sate women narrowly missed garnering a top-four seeding falling into the No. 5 spot after posting a 6-8 mark in league play.

The No. 3 BSU men (14-12; 9-5 NSIC) will host No. 6 Minnesota State University-Moorhead (16-11; 5-9 NSIC) Wednesday (Mar. 1) at 7 p.m. in the BSU Gymnasium. The No. 5 BSU women (13-14; 6-8 NSIC) will travel to Moorhead, Minn. Wednesday to battle No. 4 MSU-Moorhead (14-13; 7-7 NSIC) in their first round contest. Tip-off for that game is slated for 7 p.m. at MSUM's Alex Nemzek Hall.

Fans unable to attend either of BSU's first round games will be able to follow the Beavers from the comfort of their own homes. KBSU, Bemidji State's campus television station, has announced that it will televise the BSU men's quarterfinal match-up to local Charter Communication customers while KBSB 89.7 FM will broadcast the BSU women live from Moorhead, Minn. The radio broadcast can also be heard live on the Internet at www.fm90.org.

A win in the first round will earn each team the right to continue to fight for the NSIC's automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Tournament. The semifinal and championship rounds will be hosted by the highest remaining men's and women's seed. Semifinals are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. March 4 with the championships slated for 2 p.m. Sunday March 5.
