Beaver Basketball camps draw area youth

The Bemidji State Gymnasium was overrun with youth this week as more than 60 basketball players entering grades first to sixth participated the Beavers annual summer basketball camps.


Haake named to the NABC Honors Court

Two months after graduating with a business administration degree from Bemidji State University, Seth Haake (Eden Prairie, Minn.) earned another academic award as the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced its list of student-athletes on the NABC Honors Court. The award is bestowed upon collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2009-10 season. Haake was a two-time NSIC All-Academic Team member and a constant on BSU’s 3.0 Club during his tenure as a Beaver.


Beavers conduct collegiate exposure camp

The men's basketball coaching staff conducted a collegiate exposure camp for varsity level boys high school basketball players Wednesday at the BSU Gymnasium.


Men’s basketball golf outing set for July 23

The Bemidji State men’s basketball program and former student-athletes Dan Christenson and John Phillips are hosting the 2nd Annual Bemidji State Men’s Basketball Alumni and Friend’s Golf Outing on Friday, July 23 at the Blueberry Pines Golf Course in Menahga, Minn. The cost for the 2-person scramble is $100 with $50 going directly back to BSU basketball.


Beavers announce two summer boys basketball camps

The Bemidji State men’s basketball coaching staff has announced the program will host two summer boys basketball camps in 2010. A shooting and scoring camp for grades 4-12 will be offered on two different dates, June 21 and July 19, while an advanced skills camp will run August 2-4 for grades 7-12.


Co-ed summer basketball camp announced for grades 1-6

The Bemidji State men’s and women’s basketball coaching crews have come together to offer a co-ed fundamentals camp, open to boys and girls in grades 1-6, August 2-4.


Rongstad named Bemidji State Male Newcomer of the Year

Erika Wheelhouse (Fr., D, Crookston, Minn.) of the women’s ice hockey team and football/men’s basketball standout Lance Rongstad (Fr., QB/G/F, Eleva, Wis.) were selected 2009-10 Bemidji State University Female and Male Newcomers of the Year, tonight at the BSU Student-Athlete Appreciation Banquet.


Beavers add Kinnell to 2010-11 signing class

The Bemidji State men’s basketball team has added Ryan Kinnell (F/C, Yuma, Ariz.) to the 2010-11 signing class. Head coach Matt Bowen today announced the signing of Kinnell to a National Letter of Intent. He joins Zach Noreen (F, Albany, Minn.), Max Rosenbloom (F, St. Paul, Minn.) and Jeff Whicker (G, Craig, Alaska) as signees during the NCAA late signing period. With the signing of Jake Schalow (G, Sherwood, Wis.) in November, the five players will begin their careers at BSU in the fall of 2010-11. Kinnell is the 16th player under Bowen to sign during the late period in his four seasons at Bemidji State.


Bowen announces signing of Noreen and Rosenbloom

Bemidji State men’s basketball head coach Matt Bowen today announced the signing of Zach Noreen (F, Albany, Minn.) and Max Rosenbloom (F, St. Paul, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent. Noreen and Rosenbloom join Jeff Whicker (G, Craig, Alaska) as signees during the NCAA late signing period and will join the Beavers for the 2010-11 season. The additions mark the 14th and 15th players under Bowen to sign during the late period in his four seasons at Bemidji State.


Beavers begin late signing period by adding Whicker

The Bemidji State men’s basketball program began its NCAA late signing period today with the announcement of signing Jeff Whicker (G, Craig, Alaska) to a National Letter of Intent. Whicker will don the green and white starting the 2010-11 season. He becomes the 13th player to be inked during the late signing period by head coach Matt Bowen during his four years at Bemidji State.


Haake selected Second-Team All-NSIC

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced today senior guard Seth Haake (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was selected as a Second-Team All-NSIC member. His 18.6 points per game led the team, ranked second in the NSIC and placed him 55th in the nation (500 ranked). He finished his career at BSU with 1,202 career points, which stands 10th on BSU’s career scoring chart.


Rongstad featured in hometown newspaper

Freshman guard/forward Lance Rongstad (Eleva, Minn.) was featured in his hometown newspaper, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, Thursday. Rongstad attended Eleva-Strum High School, guiding the Cardinals to the 2007-08 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletics Association Division 4 boy's basketball state title.


Beavers close season with 91-48 loss to Wayne State

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team ran into a hot Wayne State College team in the final game of the 2009-10 season, as the Wildcats downed the Beavers 91-48. WSC shot 63.5 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from 3-point land. BSU couldn’t find its shooting rhythm, going 16-of-45 (a season-low 35.6%) from the field and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from beyond the arc.


Haake's career-high 36 points guides Beavers to fifth straight win

Senior Seth Haake established a new career-high for the second time in five games, scoring 36 points in a 98-90 victory at University of Minnesota Duluth to guide the Beavers to their fifth consecutive victory. Haake has 1,193 career points to sit 10th on BSU's career scoring chart.


Beavers close 2009-10 season at UMD and WSC

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team is on the road to close the 2009-10 regular season Feb. 24 and 27. BSU travels to University of Minnesota Duluth Feb. 24 to play at 8 p.m. before heading south to Wayne State College (Neb.) Feb. 27 with that game slated for a 6 p.m. tip-off.

Rongstad named NSIC Player of the Week

Bemidji State University men’s basketball freshman guard/forward Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week by the league office today. The award is the first of his career and the first for BSU this season. According to Bemidji State records dating to 1998-99, Rongstad is the first freshman to earn the league honor.


Beavers win battle with Warriors 88-86; sweep season series

Freshman Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) dropped a career-high 29 and senior guard Seth Haake (Eden Prairie, Minn.), playing in his final game at the BSU Gymnasium, scored 20 as the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team closed the home portion of the 2009-10 season with a battle against Winona State University, prevailing victorious 88-86.


Beavers host final home game against WSU

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team hosts Winona State University Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. in its final home game of the 2009-10 season. The game will serve as Senior Day for Seth Haake. With 10 minutes left in warm-ups, he will be presented a gift from the coaching staff and a ball commemorating his 1,000th career point.

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team picked-up its 10th win of the season Tuesday at the BSU Gymnasium with a 99-67 win against Finlandia University. The last time BSU surpassed the 10-win mark was the 2005-06 season.

Beavers close 2009 with 84-75 loss at Northern Michigan

Dec. 29, 2009 MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team fell to Northern Michigan University 84-75 in a nonconference game to close out the 2009 calendar year. Senior Seth Haake (G, Eden Prairie, Minn.) scored a season-high 27 points. The Beavers (5-5, 2-2 NSIC) held a 38-35 lead at halftime, thanks to 19 points from Haake. BSU earned a seven point lead at the 13:54 mark of the second half with the score standing at 51-44. The Wildcats then went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at the 11:31 mark. NMU kept rolling and took a 10 point lead at 64-54 with 6:46 on the clock. The home team never looked back on its way to a nine point win. Freshman Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) scored 13 points and added eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Bryce Tesdahl (Crosby, Minn.) scored 11 points, added seven rebounds and had five assists.
