BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State men’s basketball team will hit the floor as a team for the first time as a full squad Thursday afternoon in its opening of official practice for the 2009-10 season. The Beavers will practice from 5-7 p.m. during the fall semester.

“The opening day of practice is something players and coaches look forward to with great anticipation and excitement each season,” said head men’s coach Matt Bowen. “Our players have had a great off season improving their fitness and skill level. With the majority of our team returning, I am as excited as ever to get going on the 2009-2010 season.”

BSU is returning four of its starters from last season and is welcoming seven newcomers. Key returners for the Beavers, who are sporting just one senior, are Seth Haake (Sr., G, Eden Prairie, Minn.), Brady Fairbanks (Jr., G/F, Bena, Minn.), Jake Lindstrom (Jr., G, Cottage Grove, Minn.) and Bryce Tesdahl (So., G/F, Crosby, Minn.). The squad also welcomes back redshirt junior Sergej Baskow (F/C, Ludwigsburg, Germany), who played in just six games last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

The young Beaver squad begins competition with an exhibition against the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. BSU’s first home game is scheduled for Nov. 24 in a nonconference bout with Jamestown College at 7 p.m.

Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
