BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team used a balanced team attack in an 89-72 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory against the University of Minnesota, Crookston Saturday night at the BSU Gymnasium. Sophomore Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) posted 20 points and six rebounds on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and a 7-for-7 performance from the line. Senior Seth Haake (G, Eden Prairie, Minn.) contributed 18 points, a career-high seven assists and five rebounds.

“Crookston jumped on us early, but I’m proud of our guys for how they responded,” said head coach Matt Bowen. “It could have been very easy for our young and small team to cave, but we didn’t. Our defense was much, much better in the second half.

The Beavers (4-3, 1-1 NSIC) and Golden Eagles (3-3, 0-2 NSIC) were in an old fashioned shootout to start the conference contest, sitting at 15-15 just 4:15 into the game. BSU then cooled down for a bit and all-of-a-sudden, were down 19-28 with 12:37 remaining in the first half. The Beavers flipped the on-switch in the final 11 minutes of the half, taking a 39-38 lead with 4:17 remaining and continuing to charge through the first 20 minutes with a 52-43 lead at the half. Freshman Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) posted six points in last 46 seconds of the half, which included an and-one off a three-point bomb with one second left. BSU kept rolling through into the second frame, earning a 21 point lead at 70-49 with 14:28 remaining in the game. UMC cut the lead down to 14 with 7:38 left, but the Beavers snuffed out the flame before the fire started and cruised to a 17 point victory at 89-72.

Freshman forward David Berthene (Lakeville, Minn.) doubled his season-high with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Rongstad finished with 13 points, four rebounds and thee assists in 25 minutes of play. Junior Jake Lindstrom (G, Cottage Grove, Minn.) had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists. BSU shot 55.5 from the floor, 43.8 from downtown and 85.7 percent from the line. The Beavers posted 20 assists, while committing only 11 turnovers and collecting six steals.
