BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Erin Cody (Jr., F, Roseville, Minn.) and Bryce Tesdahl (So., G, 6-3, 195, Crosby, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after outstanding athletic performances during the week of Nov. 30-Dec. 6.
Cody had one of the most impressive weekends by a BSU forward so far this season, while leading the Beavers to consecutive wins. On Saturday she netted two goals, both on the power play, to lift the Beavers over the Fighting Sioux, 3-0. Her efforts on special teams helped BSU to a flawless performance killing off seven penalties and going 2-2 on the power play. On Sunday night she upped her performance by netting two more goals, including the game-winner in overtime. She also chipped in on defense blocking a shot to help gain the sweep over the University of North Dakota. Her four-point weekend marked the greatest point total by a BSU player in 2009-10. She now leads the team in scoring with 15 points (8G, 7A).
Cody’s selection for the athlete of the week award marks the second time this season a BSU women’s ice hockey player has garnered the award. She follows Zuzana Tomcikova who was honored for his outstanding effort Oct. 14. Cody also garnered the award once during her sophomore campaign (1/28/09.
Tesdahl led the Beavers to a 1-1 start in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play last weekend as BSU hosted Minnesota State University, Moorhead and University of Minnesota, Crookston. In the two games Tesdahl averaged 16 points, six rebounds and five assists in 33.5 minutes per game. He posted a 2.5 assists to turnover ratio, shot 58.8 percent from the field, was 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe. He had a season-high 20 points in the 89-72 win against the Golden Eagles Saturday. In the 73-71 loss to the Dragons Friday, he had 12 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Tesdahl becomes the first BSU men’s basketball player to be named Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week this season and it is the first honor of the sophomore’s career.
