Bowen announces signing of Noreen and Rosenbloom
BEMIDJI, Minn.  -- Bemidji State men’s basketball head coach Matt Bowen today announced the signing of Zach Noreen (F, Albany, Minn.) and Max Rosenbloom (F, St. Paul, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent. Noreen and Rosenbloom join Jeff Whicker (G, Craig, Alaska) as signees during the NCAA late signing period and will join the Beavers for the 2010-11 season. The additions mark the 14th and 15th players under Bowen to sign during the late period in his four seasons at Bemidji State.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

“We are extremely excited about the additions of Zach and Max to the 2010-11 roster,” Bowen said. “Zach comes from a great basketball family. He is a skilled permitter/post player that is a strong inside/outside threat. Max brings a lot of leadership and intensity to his game. He is a warrior on the glass and plays tenacious defense.”

Zach Noreen • Forward • Albany, Minn. • Albany High School

Noreen was a 1,000-plus point scorer for Albany High School, guiding the Huskies to a 23-3 record his senior season...All three of AHS losses came to the eventual class AA state champions New London-Spicer...He was a three-year starter for the Huskies, garnering all-conference and co-conference most valuable player honors his senior year...Noreen was also named to the 2010 Minnesota Associated Press All-State Boys Basketball Team and the St. Cloud Times All-Area Team...He is a member of the Minnesota Comets AAU program...Noreen is a three-sport athlete, also competing in football and track.

Personal: He is the son of Jon and Lynette Noreen...Born May 18, 1991....Zach comes from an athletically-rich family with numerous ties to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference...His two sisters Joanne (2005-2009) and Jennie (2008-present) played/play for the women’s basketball team at Minnesota State University, Mankato who earned the Division II National Championship in 2009...His brother Seth currently plays football at St. Cloud State University...His father, Jon, is the head girl’s basketball coach at Albany High School.

Max Rosenbloom • Forward • St. Paul, Minn. • St. Paul Johnson High School

Rosenbloom was named Pioneer Press Player of the Year his senior year, guiding St. Paul Johnson High School to a perfect 32-0 record and the school’s first-ever class AAA state championship...He averaged 9.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game in his final prep campaign, shooting 56 percent from the floor and posting a 75 percent clip from the free throw line...He was a member of the 2010 Minnesota Associated Press All-State Boys Basketball Team and a first team all-conference team member...As a junior he averaged 8.5 points per game, as the Governors finished third at the state tournament, posing a 27-5 record...Rosenbloom is a high honors student, ranking in the top 10 percent of his class...He is the son of Max and Machelle Rosenbloom.

The 2009-10 Beavers closed the season winning five of their last six games, which included a season-long five game winning streak. BSU finished with a 12-15 overall and 8-12 NSIC record. The win totals are the best under Bowen and since 2005-06. BSU finished in 11th place in the final NSIC standings, but just a game out of a tie for ninth.
