Ellisor, Kinnell, Rongstad and Tesdahl named to NABC Honors Court

Bemidji State University men’s basketball student-athletes senior James Ellisor (F, Glendale, Ariz.), senior Ryan Kinnell (C, Yuma, Ariz.), junior Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) and senior Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) were honored today by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for their efforts off the hardwood.


Men’s basketball golf outing set for July 22

The Bemidji State men’s basketball program and former student-athletes Dan Christenson and John Phillips are hosting the Third Annual Bemidji State Men’s Basketball Alumni and Friends Golf Outing on Friday, July 22 at the Blueberry Pines Golf Course in Menahga, Minn. The cost for the 2-person scramble is $100 per golfer with all proceeds directly benefitting the BSU basketball program.


Bemidji State adds Floyd to signing class

Head Bemidji State men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen has announced the signing of Dillon Floyd (C, Palm Springs, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent to play for BSU beginning the 2011-12 season. Floyd joins Dermaine Crockrell (G, Mesa, Ariz./Scottsdale Community College) as the two signees for the upcoming campaign during the regular signing period. Floyd is the 18th player under Bowen to sign during the regular period in his five seasons at Bemidji State.


Beavers announce summer basketball camps

The Bemidji State men’s basketball coaching staff has announced its summer boys basketball camp opportunities for 2011. Camp offerings will run from June 10 to August 3 and be available to kids ranging from age six though 2011 graduating seniors.


Buerkle and Read named Bemidji State Student-Athletes of the Year -

Bemidji State University’s Kristi Buerkle (Sr., Stacy, Minn.) and Matt Read (Sr., Ilderton, Ontario) were named as the 2010-11 Bemidji State University Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Year, tonight at the BSU Student-Athlete Appreciation Banquet Thursday at Sanford Center. In addition, Mackenzie Haupert (Fr., Andover, Minn.) James Ellisor (Jr., F, Glendale, Ariz.) were selected BSU’s 2010-11 Female and Male Newcomers of the Year.


Beavers sign Crockrell to National Letter of Intent

Head Bemidji State men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen today announced the signing of Dermaine Crockrell (G, Mesa, Ariz.) to a National Letter of Intent to play for BSU beginning the 2011-12 season. Crockrell is the 17th player under Bowen to sign during the regular period in his five seasons at Bemidji State.


Three named to Winter Academic All-NSIC Team

Bemidji State University had 13 student-athletes selected to the 2011 Winter Academic All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Team, announced by the league office today.


Ellisor named Second-Team All-NSIC

Bemidji State University junior forward James Ellisor (Glendale, Ariz.) came to BSU this season and not only made an immediate impact on the team, but on the league as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference today announced him a Second-Team All-NSIC member.


Men’s hoops closes regular season No. 4 nationally in FT percentage

All season long the Bemidji State men’s basketball team has been able to hang its hat on its ability to be effective from the charity stripe. In the final regular season NCAA National Statistics Summary for Division II (games thru Feb. 27) the Beavers finished No. 4 with a 78.9 free throw percentage. The women’s team has been a top 25 free throw shooting team all season long and finished No. 21.


Beavers down Winona State 60-58 in season finale

For the second consecutive season the Bemidji State University men's basketball team stunned Winona State University on its own floor, this year stealing a 60-58 victory at McCown Gymnasium in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game.

It was a battle of the struggling teams Saturday in a matinee men’s basketball contest between University of Minnesota Duluth, on a nine-game losing streak entering the contest and Bemidji State University, on a six-game skid. A slow start eventually doomed the Beavers 89-75 and sent their losing streak to seven, while ending the Bulldog’s conference-long streak in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate game played at BSU Gymnasium.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team was unable to recover from an overtime loss from the night before and fell to Concordia University, St. Paul 79-73 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at Gangelhoff Center. Junior Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) had six assists in the game, tying BSU’s all-time career assists record (Since 1976) with 314 career helpers.

A 17-8 run during the final 4:25 of regulation powered the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team to a 77-77 tie with less than 30 seconds remaining. A missed St. Cloud State Universiy shot sent the game into overtime, but the Beavers fell short in the extra session, losing the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game at Halenbeck Hall 92-88.

Big holiday meals didn’t slow down the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team as it jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start its first game back two weeks. Former men’s basketball player to play professionally in Germany

Seth Haake has continuously proven to himself he can perform at a higher level on the basketball court and on Jan. 8 he will take the next step in his basketball career by playing professionally in Germany. Haake, who played at Bemidji State University from 2006-10, has signed a contract with München Basket, a professional basketball organization based in Munich, Germany.

For just the third time this season, BSU failed to shoot above 50 percent and for just the third time this season, the Beavers allowed their opponent to shoot above 50 percent.

Senior Patrick Cassidy (F, St. Paul, Minn.) had nine career 3-pointers at Bemidji State prior to the game against University of Wisconsin-Stout Tuesday, but hit a big one to tie the game with 1:05 remaining in regulation. With nine ticks on the clock, the calm, cool and collected veteran knocked down two free throws to guide the Beavers to an 89-87 nail-bitter victory.


Tesdahl's double-double guides Beavers to first win of season

Junior point guard Bryce Tesdahl (Crosby, Minn.) struggled to find his game in the opening game of the season Tuesday, but responded like good players do and tallied 23 points and 10 assists to lead the Bemidji State men's basketball team to a 84-63 victory at Finlandia University. BSU got scoring from 10 different players in the nonconference contest that gave the Beavers their first win of the season.

Beavers slotted 10th in NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team finished last season winners in five of its last six games, en route to a 12-15 overall and 8-12 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference mark, good for 11th place in the final conference standings. Wednesday, the 2010-11 edition of the NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll was released, slotting the Beavers 10th with 64 points. BSU senior forward Pat Cassidy (St. Paul, Minn.) was named the team’s player to watch.

Come support the Beaver men’s basketball team at the fourth annual Breakfast with the Beavers, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the BSU Gymnasium. The event is a meet and greet with the 2010-11 Bemidji State University men’s basketball team and gives fans a chance to hear about the upcoming season. Kids will also get a chance to shoot hoops with the players. The breakfast is free and open to the public.

The Bemidji State men's basketball team officially opened its 2010-11 season Friday afternoon with its first practice. The Beavers have increased their win total in each of the last four seasons and are looking to improve on 2009-10 12-15 record.

Montgomery hired as assistant coach

Bemidji State head men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen has announced the hiring of Ryan Montgomery as the new assistant basketball coach. Montgomery moves into the position after serving two seasons as the graduate assistant coach at BSU. He replaces Jeremy Tiers who was Bowen’s original assistant, serving for the past four years.


Men’s basketball releases 2010-11 schedule

Bemidji State head men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen has announced the Beavers’ 2010-11 schedule. The addition of two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games, to make 22, highlight the 26-game schedule.
