BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University basketball players Ellie Wessling (Fr., G/F, Winsted, Minn.) and James Ellisor (Jr., F, 6-5, Glendale, Ariz. / Glendale CC) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic accomplishments during the week of Nov. 15-22.

In the first game of her BSU career, Wessling led the Beavers past the Comets of Mayville State with 16 points.

This week’s award marks the first occasion that Beaver Pride has recognized the Winsted, Minn. native as an athlete of the week.  Wessling’s selection also marks the first time in 2010-11 a member of the BSU women’s basketball team has been honored by the organization.

Ellisor averaged 23 points and six rebounds in his debut weekend with the Beavers, as the Bemidji State men’s basketball team fell to Michigan Tech University, 101-88, and defeated Finlandia University, 84-63, Nov. 16-17. Ellisor becomes the first member of the BSU men’s basketball team to garner the award in 2010-11.  It also marks the first time the junior college transfer has named Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week.

The Bemidji State men’s hockey team (2-1; 0-0 NSIC) completes the nonconference portion of its schedule Nov. 29, when it travels to Jamestown, N.D. to meet Jamestown College in a 7:30 p.m. tip off.

Wessling and the BSU women’s team, which is 2-1 overall, returns to the court on Dec. 3 when they open conference play at home versus Minnesota State University Moorhead.  The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start at the BSU Gymnasium.
