Beavers announce summer basketball camps
BEMIDJI, Minn.  – The Bemidji State men’s basketball coaching staff has announced its summer boys basketball camp opportunities for 2011. Camp offerings will run from June 10 to August 3 and be available to kids ranging from age six though 2011 graduating seniors.  

The Single Day Team Challenge is set for June 10 and June 24 for high school teams. Each team will get a minimum of four games with certified officials. The cost of the camp is $125 per team.

The Youth Skill Development Camp will be offered Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. June 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28. The camp is open to boys and girls between 3rd and 8th grade. The clinics will be instructed by head coach Matt Bowen, BSU staff and student-athletes with emphasis on fundamental skill building in passing, dribbling, shooting and individual and team defense. Cost for each session is $15, while all six sessions are $75. Participants attending two or more clinics will receive either a shirt, water bottle or basketball.  

The Collegiate Exposure Camp provides an opportunity for high school players graduating in 2011-2014 to receive instruction from the BSU coaching staff and collegiate coaches from around the area. The camp offers exposure to the intensity and demands of a collegiate practice and includes an NCAA recruiting rules session. The camp date is June 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $50, which includes a reversable jersey and lunch.

The Boys Basketball Day Camp is set for June 20-23 for ages 6-17. Participants 6-11 will go from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and ages 12-17 will run from 1-4 p.m. In addition to individual and team instruction from Bowen, the BSU coaching staff and student-athletes, the camp provides games and contests. The camp cost is $75 and includes a t-shirt.

The High School Skill Development Camp is available to high school boys entering their sophomore season through the 2011 class of graduating seniors for $50, August 1-3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The registration fee includes instruction from Bowen, the BSU coaching staff and student-athletes, placing emphasis on skill development and instruction to prepare for the basketball season ahead.

The Beavers finished the regular season 11-15 overall and 8-14 in the NSIC to sit in a three-way tie for 10th and just a game out of a tie for eighth. BSU closed the season winners in four of its last six games, which included downing Winona State University in the season finale Feb. 26, beating the Warriors for the second consecutive season in Winona, Minn.

Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
