Minnesota Duluth hires Matt Bowen to guide its men’s basketball program

University of Minnesota Duluth today announced it has hired former Bemidji State University men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen to succeed long-time head coach Gary Holquist at the helm the Bulldogs’ men’s basketball program. The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced Thursday Bemidji State University men’s basketball senior forward James Ellisor (Glendale, Ariz.) was named to the NABC Coaches’ Division II All-America Team, selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC. The honor is the second All-America team he has been named to this week after earning national player of the year and first team awards from Daktronics, Inc. Tuesday.

Senior guard Bryce Tesdahl (Crosby, Minn.) handed out a career-high 12 assists in the win for his seventh career game with 10 or more assists.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team did what they needed to do find a 67-61 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory at Wayne State College Sunday. The Beavers uncharacteristically committed 16 turnovers and shot just 69.7 percent from the charity stripe, but was an efficient 56.8 percent from the field in the victory that improved their record to 11-4 overall and 6-3 in the NSIC.

The lone four-year senior from Crosby, Minn. has been vital to the development of the BSU men’s basketball program under sixth year head coach Matt Bowen. Dermaine Crockrell (Jr., G, Mesa, Ariz.) tallied 21 points in his second game with the Bemidji State University men's basketball team to help lift the Beavers past University of Mary 82-61. The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team couldn’t find an answer to the hot hands of Minnesota State University Moorhead shooters Friday as the Beavers fell in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener 77-57. Seven different players played for at least 15 minutes as the Bemidji State University men’s basketball squad put together a complete team effort on the road and came away with a 70-57 victory at University of Wisconsin-Stout Tuesday. Head coach Matt Bowen started his fourth different line-up in four games, but the team responded to own its third consecutive win and move to 3-1 on the season.

Ellisor named NSIC Player of the Week

Senior forward James Ellisor (Glendale, Ariz.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week today by the league office for his efforts in the 68-49 home opener victory Sunday against University of Sioux Falls. He scored 27 points and added a career-high 15 rebounds in the game to earn his first-career weekly conference honor.

Bowen signs Lochner during early signing period

The Bemidji State men’s basketball team announced today the signing of Dan Lochner (C, Maple Grove, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA early signing period. Lochner will play for the Beavers starting the 2012-13 season. He is the third player to be inked by head coach Matt Bowen during the early signing period in his six years at Bemidji State.


Beavers earn 77-69 victory at UC-Colorado Springs

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team never trailed as it picked up its first win of the season with a 77-69 victory at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Saturday. The Beavers pushed to a double-digit lead in the first half and held off a Mountain Lion run in the second half to earn the win and go 1-1 in the NSIC/RMAC Challenge in Colorado.

For the first time since 2006, the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team is ranked in the top eight in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Beavers were tabbed seventh (82 points) in the 2011-12 edition of the coaches’ tally after finishing last season in a three-way tie for 10th in the final regular-season rankings. Men’s basketball hosts Breakfast with the Beavers Oct. 22

Men's basketball opens 2011-12 season Oct. 15

The National Basketball Association may be in a lockout, but collegiate basketball at Bemidji State University is gearing-up to begin the 2011-12 season. Both the men's and women's basketball teams get underway Oct. 15 with its first official practices of the season.


Rongstad excels on the field, on the court and in the classroom

The age of dual sport athletes at the professional level is dead and even in the NCAA is becoming a rarity. That is what makes junior Lance Rongstad so special. Not just because he plays two sports in college, but what he brings to the table as a starting quarterback and starting guard/forward. Oh yeah, and that ‘student’ part in student-athlete? He does that pretty well too, holding down a 3.6 GPA in biology.


NSIC announces changes for 2012-13

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference annual meetings concluded Thursday, July 14 in St. Cloud, Minn. with league and institution administrators deciding on some significant issues for the 2012-13 school year. With the additions of University of Sioux Falls and Minot State University to the NSIC for the 2012-13 season, the league will move to a 16-team conference, forcing the administrators to make some changes in regards to divisions and postseason play.


Bowen releases 2011-12 schedule

Bemidji State head men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen announced the 2011-12 schedule today. The season is highlighted by an exhibition game with University of Minnesota, a trip to Colorado, a Thanksgiving tournament in Bemidji, Minn. and the rigors of the 22-game schedule in one of the premier Division II basketball leagues in the country.

Men’s basketball golf outing set for July 22

The Bemidji State men’s basketball program and former student-athletes Dan Christenson and John Phillips are hosting the Third Annual Bemidji State Men’s Basketball Alumni and Friends Golf Outing on Friday, July 22 at the Blueberry Pines Golf Course in Menahga, Minn. The cost for the 2-person scramble is $100 per golfer with all proceeds directly benefitting the BSU basketball program.


Bemidji State adds Floyd to signing class

Head Bemidji State men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen has announced the signing of Dillon Floyd (C, Palm Springs, Calif.) to a National Letter of Intent to play for BSU beginning the 2011-12 season. Floyd joins Dermaine Crockrell (G, Mesa, Ariz./Scottsdale Community College) as signees for the upcoming campaign during the regular signing period. Floyd is the 18th player under Bowen to sign during the regular period in his five seasons at Bemidji State.


Beavers announce summer basketball camps

The Bemidji State men’s basketball coaching staff has announced its summer boys basketball camp opportunities for 2011. Camp offerings will run from June 10 to August 3 and be available to kids ranging from age six though 2011 graduating seniors.


Beavers sign Crockrell to National Letter of Intent

Head Bemidji State men’s basketball coach Matt Bowen today announced the signing of Dermaine Crockrell (G, Mesa, Ariz.) to a National Letter of Intent to play for BSU beginning the 2011-12 season. Crockrell is the 17th player under Bowen to sign during the regular period in his five seasons at Bemidji State.
