BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State men’s basketball team announced today the signing of Dan Lochner (C, Maple Grove, Minn.) to a National Letter of Intent during the NCAA early signing period. Lochner will play for the Beavers starting the 2012-13 season. He is the third player to be inked by head coach Matt Bowen during the early signing period in his six years at Bemidji State.
All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.
“We noticed Dan last Spring, followed him through the Summer and were impressed with how hard he worked and how much he continued to improve,” Bowen said. “Dan’s skill set fits right into our system and his size will provide us with depth in the post.”

Maple Grove High School: Lochner was on a varsity Maple Grove boy’s basketball team last season that went 18-11 overall and 11-9 in Northwest Suburban Conference play... The Crimson made a run through the Class AAAA - Section 8 tournament, en route to a state tournament appearance after it defeated Buffalo High School 58-40 in the section finals... Out of high school, the left-hander competes in the Minnesota Heat program.
Personal: He is the son of Kevin and Linda Lochner.
Current redshirt-sophomore David Berthene (F, Lakeville, Minn.) and sophomore Jake Schalow (Kaukauna, Wis.) are the other players under Bowen to be signed during the early period.
The Beavers are 1-1 after opening the season in Colorado Nov. 11-12. BSU fell to then-No. 10 Metro State College Nov. 11 71-60 before downing University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 77-69 Nov. 12.
