KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team is receiving a notice in the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Coaches’ Poll. BSU had one vote in the latest NABC poll released Tuesday.
The Beavers are 14-5 overall and 9-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play to sit in a tie for third in the league standings with Minnesota State University Moorhead. Four out of five losses this season have come against nationally ranked opponents and the other came on the road against MSU Moorhead. In program history, the 2011-12 squad is the fastest to 14 wins since the 1972-73 team posted a matching 14-5 record through 19 games. The 14 overall and nine conference victories are already more than what sixth-year head coach Matt Bowen had amassed in a season in his time as the Beaver bench boss.
Other NSIC teams in the poll are Winona State University at No. 6 and St. Cloud State University at No. 13. MSU Moorhead fell out of the top 25 and is receiving 11 votes - the most outside the top 25.
The Beavers take their three-game winning streak on the road Jan. 27-28 at University of Mary and Northern State University. Both contests are slated for an 8 p.m. start.
Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
