BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team is ranked in the top 30 nationally in five different categories and the BSU women’s team is ranked top 30 in three categories according to the recent NCAA Statistics Rankings (games through Feb. 19). The Beaver men boast the No. 2 spot in turnovers per game with 10.4 giveaways per contest. The BSU women’s basketball team sits fifth in the nation in free throw percentage with a 77.7 percent clip.
Individuals are also making their mark on the nation, as senior Bryce Tesdahl (G, Crosby, Minn.) is No. 7 in assist/turnover ratio (2.93 ratio) and senior James Ellisor (F, Glendale, Ariz.) is No. 8 in points per game (21.7 ppg).
The Beavers have a No. 7 ranking in assist/turnover ratio (1.41), thanks mostly to Tesdahl’s spot at seventh. The team sits among the nation’s leaders in personal fouls per game with 16.0 that ranks No. 24. BSU’s free throw percentage of 74.5 percent sits No. 28.
The BSU men’s team also ranks 25th in 3-point percentage, shooting at a 38.8 percent clip. The high 3-point percentage is guided by a 75.0 percent (15-for-20) evening Dec. 17 against University of Mary that ranks fourth in the nation in 3-point percentage in a game (minimum 10 3-pointers made). Sitting tied for 20th in 2011-12 is the Beavers’ performance against University of Minnesota, Crookston Dec. 3 when it shot 10-for-15 (66.7%) from beyond the arc.
Tesdahl also ranks No. 12 in assists per game with a 6.1 mark. He recorded a career-high and 2011-12 NSIC-best 12 assists Jan. 14 in a home win against Concordia University, St. Paul, then matched it Feb. 10 in a win at home versus Minnesota, Crookston.
Ellisor posted a 91.7 percentage (11-for-12) from the field against Southwest Minnesota State University Jan. 21 that ranks tied for 11th in the nation for field goal percentage in a game (minimum 10 FG made). His 56.8 percentage from the field ranks 31st.
The women’s team is guided in free throw percentage by junior Shannon Thompson (G, Rosemount, Minn.). She ranks No. 44 nationally with an 84.1 percentage (minimum 2.5 FT made per game). The Beavers are ranked No. 27 in 3-point field goal percentage with a 35.4 percent clip. Sophomore Morgan Lee (G, Hayward, Wis.) is shooting 40.3 percent from beyond the arc to rank No. 21 in the category (minimum 2 made per game). She is 42nd in 3-pointers made (2.4 per game) to guide the Beavers to the No. 27 spot in 3-pointers made her game with 7.0 per contest.
The Bemidji State men’s team owns a 19-7 overall and 14-6 NSIC record to sit tied for second in the conference standings. The women’s team is 8-17 overall with a 6-14 NSIC mark that ranks tied for 12th. The Beavers host Upper Iowa University and Winona State University Feb. 24-25 for the final weekend of the regular season.
