Three Bemidji State basketball players honored for classroom success

For their dedication off the hardwood, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) honored three Bemidji State University men's basketball student-athletes today. Seniors Jason Edwards (G, Phoenix, Ariz.) and Lance Rongstad (G/F, Eleva, Wis.) and junior Jake Schalow (G, Kaukauna, Wis.) were named to the NABC Honors Court.

Bemidji State men's basketball 2012-13 season in review

The 2012-2013 season was a fresh start for the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team after its former head coach, Matt Bowen, resigned and was replaced by Mike Bochee. After losing its head coach, the nation's player of the year and an all-region point guard, the league coaches predicted the Beavers to finish tied for 12th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). Bemidji State proved itself and surprised the league in one of the nation's toughest conferences and finished the 22-game league schedule with a 13-9 record to finish as the No. 3 seed in the NSIC North.

Men's basketball season ends with 18-12 mark

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team silenced any critics in 2012-13 and posted an 18-12 overall record to rank fifth all-time in wins in the 91-year history of the program. BSU won six of its last seven games and posted a 16-10 central region record, but was not selected to the NCAA Tournament Sunday.

BSU and the NSIC present “It’s a Slam Dunk—Don’t drive Drunk” Feb. 1-2

Late on a Saturday night in July of 2012, a drunk driver swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with a car carrying Southwest Minnesota State’s head men’s basketball coach Brad Bigler, his wife, his wife’s grandmother and his five-month old son, Drake. Drake was killed in the crash. The driver of the other car had two previous drunk driving arrests in 2000 and 2005.


Wolves win defensive battle 58-55 versus Beavers

Northern State University visited Bemidji State University Saturday and stole a 58-55 victory from the Beaver men's basketball team in a defensive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference battle at BSU Gymnasium. The loss places BSU back to .500 at 9-9 overall and 7-7 in league play.

Ellisor takes game to the professional level

For most NCAA Division II student-athletes, their athletic careers end with the sound of the final buzzer in their last game as a senior, but there are a select few who find a way to continue to play the game they love at a higher level. The Bemidji State University men's basketball team held an 11-point lead early in the second half, but failed to keep the offensive intensity alive and fell Saturday 64-62 to Wayne State College at BSU Gymnasium. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss drops the Beavers to 7-6 overall and 5-4 in NSIC play.

A complete team effort guided the Bemidji State University men's basketball team to a 69-67 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory Friday against Augustana College. The win improves the Beavers to 7-5 overall, 5-3 in NSIC play and a perfect 4-0 at home.

Dragon long ball buries Beavers in 82-48 NSIC road loss

The Bemidji State men’s basketball team entered Saturday’s NSIC contest at MSU Moorhead as the second (tied) best team in the league in 3-point field goal defense, as it allowed its opponent a 31.4 percentage from downtown. The Dragons - who entered as the NSIC’s best 3-point shooting team - broke that trend and hit on 14-of-24 3-pointers for a 58.3 percentage for a 82-48 victory.


Beavers fall in nail bitter at Northern State 64-61

A three-game winning streak came to an end Friday, as the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team lost 64-61 in a nail bitter at Northern State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest in Aberdeen, S.D. The Beavers owned a 61-58 lead with 1:26 remaining, but couldn’t find a way to hold on for the win.

Strong defensive effort lifts Beavers to 61-40 victory verus U-Mary

Defense was the key to success for the Bemidji State men's basketball team Friday, as the squad earned a 61-40 victory against visiting University of Mary in a NSIC contest at the BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers held the Marauders to 27.7 percent shooting from the field, en route to holding U-Mary to 40 points, the lowest by an opponent since the 1951-52 season.

To close the 2012 calendar year, the Bemidji State men’s basketball team (4-3; 2-1 NSIC, 2-1 NSIC North) hosts University of Mary (2-5; 1-2 NSIC, 1-2 North) and Minot State University (1-6; 0-3 NSIC, 0-3 North) in a pair of NSIC contests Dec. 14-15. One of two, four-year seniors on the Bemidji State men’s basketball team, Mason Walters has experienced a lot during his time as a Beaver. The Milton, Wis. native has increased his minutes in each season at BSU and was a key component to a banner year a season ago.

Beaver Pride names Warmack and Noreen Athletes of the Week

Bemidji State University’s Kate Warmack (C, 6-2, Jr., East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Zach Noreen (F, 6-6, 255, Jr., Avon, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of Nov. 26-Dec. 2.


Beavers cruise to 90-58 victory versus Golden Eagles in NSIC opener

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team shot 60.0 percent from the field to roll to a 90-58 victory Saturday against visiting University of Minnesota, Crookston in the home and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference openers. The win was the first conference victory for first-year head coach Mike Boschee and his first home appearance as the bench boss at BSU.

Balanced scoring attack guides Beavers to 122-61 victory at Finlandia

A balanced scoring attack and a solid defensive effort guided the Bemidji State University men's basketball team to a 122-61 victory Wednesday in Hancock, Mich. Six different Beavers scored in double-figures and the BSU defense held the Lions to 37.5 percent from the field.

Beavers run into hot shooting Huskies in 86-59 loss

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team ran into a hot shooting Michigan Tech University squad Tuesday in Houghton, Mich. and fell 86-59. The Huskies - who are receiving votes nationally - shot a scorching 77.3 percent from the field and 72.7 percent from 3-point land in the first half, en route to the win.


Beavers conclude nonconference slate Nov. 20-21

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team (1-1; 0-0 NSIC) completes its nonconference schedule in Michigan Nov. 20-21 at Michigan Tech University and Finlandia University, respectfully. The contest against Michigan Tech is set for a 6 p.m. (central) start and the game at Finlandia is set for 4 p.m. (central).


Beavers fall to No. 5 Metro State 67-41

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team fell 67-41 to No. 5 Metro State University Saturday in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Challenge in Winona, Minn.

Beaver men's basketball officially opens the 2012-13 season

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team cracked open the lid on the 2012-13 season Monday with its first official practice of the new campaign. The Beavers welcome nine returners from the 2011-12 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Regular Season title team.

Basketball season is upon us. The Bemidji State University men's and women's basketball programs open the 2012-13 season Oct. 15 with its first official practice. The men's basketball team will practice 1-3 p.m. Monday and for the rest of the fall semester, while the women will hold the 5-7 p.m. time slot.


Boschee announces men's basketball assistant coaches

Bemidji State University men's basketball head coach Mike Boschee has assembled his coaching staff with faces familiar to the program. Ryan Montgomery, a BSU assistant the past four seasons, and Pat Cassidy, a former Beaver student-athlete, have been named assistant coaches for the upcoming season.

Men’s basketball golf outing set for July 20

The BSU men’s basketball program and former student-athletes Dan Christenson and John Phillips are hosting the Fourth Annual Bemidji State Men’s Basketball Alumni and Friends Golf Outing on Friday, July 20 at the Blueberry Pines Golf Course in Menahga, Minn. The cost for the 2-person scramble is $100 per golfer with all proceeds directly benefitting the BSU basketball program.


Boschee named Bemidji State head men’s basketball coach

Mike Boschee has been named the 16th head coach of the Bemidji State University men’s basketball program. Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Boschee, a 22-year veteran in the coaching profession, most recently as the head coach at Central College in Pella, Iowa.


Finalists named for Bemidji State head men’s basketball coaching position

Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Rick Goeb has named four finalists for the position of head men’s basketball coach at BSU. The four finalists are Al Biancalana (University of Illinois-Chicago), Mike Boschee (Central College, Iowa), Austin Hansen (South Dakota State University) and Jeff Hironaka (Washington State University).


Beavers announce summer basketball camps registration day

The Bemidji State men’s basketball program has announced a summer basketball camps registration day at BSU Gymnasium June 11. The free event is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. and is open to boys and girls in 3rd through 8th grade. Kids will have the opportunity to register for all the summer camp offerings by BSU, win prizes and meet BSU coaches and student-athletes.
