BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s Hailey Horob (So., Williston, Minn.) and Maxie Rosenbloom (F, 6-6, Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of Jan. 13-18.
Horob, of the BSU indoor track and field team, cleared 10-6 in the pole vault and surpassed the rest of the field by nearly a foot to claim top honors at the Super 8 Open Jan. 18. The mark matched her season-best of a year ago and currently places her 16th on the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference performance list.
This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks first of Horob’s collegiate career and the first of 2013-14 for a member of the BSU track and field team.
Rosenbloom averaged 17.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, shot 85.7 percent from the field (12-for-14) and went 10-for-13 (76.9%) from the free throw line in a BSU men’s basketball home weekend sweep of Minnesota State University Moorhead and Northern State University. He totaled a career-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds in the win against the Dragons. He went 8-for-9 (88.9%) from the field and hit four free throws with less than 21 seconds remaining to ice the game. The double-double was Rosenbloom’s fifth of the season, which is tied for second in the NSIC. He added 12 points on 4-of-5 (80%) shooting from the field with eight rebounds and two blocks Saturday. On the weekend he played in 77 of 80 minutes and added three blocks, two assists and a steal.
This week’s honor marks the second of the season for Rosenbloom, while it is the fourth of the season for a member of the BSU men’s basketball squad. In addition to his selection for the weekly honor Dec. 11, Rosenbloom joins teammates: Zach Noreen (F, Sr., Avon, Minn.), who earned the award Nov. 27 and Brock Lutes (G, Jr., Portland, Ore), the Jan. 8 recipient.
The Bemidji State men’s basketball team (12-4, 9-3 NSIC) takes to the road to defend its five-game winning streak Jan. 24-25 when it battles University of Mary (4-13, 2-10 NSIC) and Minot State University (6-10, 2-10 NSIC) in two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games. Friday’s contest is set for an 8 p.m. tip, while Saturday’s game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
