Sheley led the BSU women’s basketball team to a pair of wins. The sophomore averaged 18 points per game, shooting 53.6 percent (15-28) from the floor and 46.2 percent (6-13) from beyond the arc in the victories. She posted 12 points in BSU’s win over Northland College Nov. 18 before adding a career-high 24 points in a win over Mayville State Nov. 21. In addition, Sheley posted eight rebounds, six assists a blocked shot and three steals.
The Backus, Minn. native leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game through the Beavers’ first four games of 2014-15.
Lutes averaged 22.5 points per game, while accumulating eight rebounds, 10 assists a block and three steals to lead the BSU men’s basketball team to a 2-0 week Nov. 21-22. He scored a season-best 29 points on 12-fo-18 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 from three-point land and 2-of-2 form the free throw line in the Beavers’ win over Mayville State Nov. 21, with 16 points versus Viterbo Nov. 22.
At 23.0 points per game, Lutes not leads the Beavers in scoring, but is the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s top scorer after three games.
The Bemidji State men’s basketball team, now 4-0 on the season, will open NSIC play Nov. 29 when it welcomes University of Minnesota Crookston to the BSU Gymnasium. Tip off is set for 4 p.m.
