BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University’s Brittni Mowat and Clayton Elrod have been selected as Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week, after outstanding athletic performances during the week of Feb. 2-Feb. 8.
Mowat backstopped Bemidji State women’s hockey to a sweep over St. Cloud State University last weekend. The sophomore from Glenboro, Manitoba notched her fifth shutout of the season when she stopped 14 shots Saturday in an 1-0 victory. In total, Mowat stopped 38 of 39 shots (.974 save percentage) in 119:51 minutes of action and helped her team’s penalty kill go a perfect 6-for-6 on the weekend.
Mowat is 14-9-1, which is the most wins by a goaltender in a single season in program history, this season with an 1.57 goals against average and .947 save percentage.
Elrod paced the Beavers’ offense averaging 17.5 points per contest on the weekend as he shot 72 percent (13-for-18) from the floor and 69 percent (9-for-13) beyond the arc. The Elk River, Minn. native tied his career-high with a trio of three-pointers on six attempts against Southwest Minnesota State University and set a new career-best with 19 points against University of Sioux Falls. Elrod, who was 5-for-5 from three-point range and 7-for-7 from the floor against USF, also chipped in seven rebounds, three assists and one steal against the Mustangs and Cougars.
Elrod leads all BSU freshmen in scoring average with 8.4 points per game and field goal percentage (55.1 percent), while pacing the entire team in three-point percentage (50.0 percent).
The Bemidji State women’s hockey team will make its final regular-season road trip Feb. 13-14 as it travels to play Minnesota State University, Mankato.
